A fun clown buddy made of shapes! Great to play with and to learn at the same time 🙂
My Shape Buddy Clown
Skill Level:
Easy
Materials:
- 25 grams of medium weight worsted yarn in pink, blue, cream and green
- Small amounts of medium weight worsted yarn in white, dark blue and red
- Small amount of black yarn for embroidery
- Size 4.00 mm Hook
- 2 small buttons (optional)
- Yarn Needle
- Stitch Marker
Abbreviations:
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
SC2tog – work 2 single crochet stitches together
SC3tog – work 3 single crochet stitches together
sl st – slip stitch
Gauge: Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect
Finished Size:
Buddy measures approx 27cm in length
Instructions:
Note: Everything is made using the 4.00mm hook and medium worsted yarn
Circle: Make 2 – 9cm x 9cm
Cream yarn
This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.
Make a magic ring
Rnd 1: Work 6 SC into the ring. Place a stitch marker in the last SC to designate the end of the rnd.
Rnd 2: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC). MM
Rnd 3: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next ST. Repeat from * around (18 SC). MM
Rnd 4: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next two STS. Repeat from * around (24 SC). MM
Rnd 5: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next three STS. Repeat from * around (30 SC). MM
Rnd 6: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next four STS. Repeat from * around (36 SC). MM
Rnd 7: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next five STS. Repeat from * around (42 SC). MM
Rnd 8: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next six STS. Repeat from * around (48 SC). Fasten off
Leave a long tail on one circle for sewing
Square: Make 2 – 12cm x 12cm
Pink Yarn
CH21
Row 1 : Work 1 SC into 2nd chain from hook. Work 1 SC into each ST until end, turn (20SC)
Row 2 – 22: CH 1, work 1 SC into each ST until end, turn. Fasten off on last row.
Leave a long tail on one square for sewing
Triangle: Make 2 – 9cm bottom row x 8cm in length
Blue Yarn
CH16
Row 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd chain from hook. Work 1 SC into each ST until end, turn (15SC)
Row 2: CH1, SC2tog, work 1 SC into next 11 STS, SC2tog, turn
Row 3: CH1, work 1 SC into next 13 STS, turn
Row 4: CH1, SC2tog, work 1 SC into next 9 STS, SC2tog, turn
Row 5: CH1, work 1 SC into next 11 STS, turn
Row 6: CH1, SC2tog, work 1 SC into next 7 STS, SC2tog, turn
Row 7: CH1, work 1 SC into next 9 STS, turn
Row 8: CH1, SC2tog, work 1 SC into next 5 STS, SC2tog, turn
Row 9: CH1, work 1 SC into next 7STS, turn
Row 10: CH1, SC2tog, work 1 SC into next 3 STS, SC2tog, turn
Row 11: CH1, work 1 SC into next 5STS, turn
Row 12: CH1, SC2tog, work 1 SC into next 1 ST, SC2tog, turn
Row 13: CH1, SC3tog. Fasten off
Leave a long tail on one triangle for sewing
Arms and Legs: Make 4 – 18cm in length
Green Yarn
CH32
Row 1: Work 1 DC into 4th chain from hook. Work 1 DC into each ST until end. Fasten off
Leave a tail for sewing
Assemble:
Whipstitch the two circles together and stuff firmly before closing.
Whipstitch the two squares together and stuff firmly before closing.
Whipstitch the two triangles together and stuff firmly before closing.
( DO NOT OVERSTUFF)
Sewing shapes together as shown in photo
(Sew triangle onto top of circle, sew circle onto top of square)
The Finishing Touches:
Eyes: Make 2
White Yarn
Make a magic circle
Work 3CH, then 11 DC into ring. SL ST into top of 3CH. Fasten off and weave in ring tail.
Leave a tail for sewing
Eyelids: Make 2
Dark Blue Yarn
Make a magic circle
Work 3CH, then 7 DC into ring. SL ST into top of 3CH. Fasten off and weave in ring tail.
Leave a tail for sewing
Mouth: Make 1
Red Yarn
CH 11
Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 1 SC into next ST, work 1 HDC into next 2 STS, work 2 DC into next 2 STS, work 1 HDC into next 2 STS, work 1 SC into next 2 STS, SL ST into same ST as last SC. Fasten off.
Leave a tail for sewing
Star: Make 1
Dark Blue Yarn
CH 4, join with a SL ST to form a ring
Rnd 1: CH3 (counts as 1DC), work 9 DC into ring, join with a SL ST into top of 3 CH
Rnd 2: *CH5, work 1 SC into 2nd chain from hook, work 1 HDC into next CH, work 1 DC into next CH, work 1 DC into last CH. SKIP 1 ST, SL ST into next*. Repeat from * to * 4 more times. Fasten off.
Leave a tail for sewing
Sew facial pieces to circle – use photo as guide.
I used a small button for the nose.
Sew star onto square. I sewed on a small star button into the middle of the square.
