The next crochet pattern to make it from my “bucket list” to my hook is the Dahlia Flower pattern designed by Kinga E. of My Hobby Is Crochet.  This is a FREE pattern.

I first learned about this pattern in a post on Google+ a few months ago.  I loved the 3-dimensional look of the flower and the fullness of the layered petals.

I used Red Heart Soft Yarn and a 4.5 mm hook to crochet my dahlia flower.

I LOVE the final result.

I did have some trouble understanding the written explanation for the Special Stitch used (tr4tog). Thankfully I remembered to read the whole pattern before I started and I had seen the photo tutorials further down the page 🙂  Kinga prepared a fabulous photo tutorial to outline the steps – so I was able to proceed without incident.

I added a pinback to this lovely flower – another brooch to add to my collection –

Kinga also provides instructions to make this Dahlia flower into a Dahlia Flower Granny Square.  I think this would make a stunning afghan.
