My Cat Bookmark

Skill Level:

Easy

Materials:

  • 50 grams of double knitting/light worsted yarn in brown
  • 25 grams of double knitting/light worsted yarn in brown
  • Small amount of double knitting/light worsted yarn in black
  • Size 4.00 mm Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Stitch Marker
  • Small amount of toy Stuffing / fiberfill
  • 5 x small buttons in various colors

Abbreviations:

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

sc2tog – single crochet 2 sts together

 

Gauge: [22 stitches and 30  rows = 10 x 10 cm]
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

Finished Size: 26 cm in length and 8 cm in width

Instructions:

Body:
With brown yarn and 4.00mm hook

CH13

Row 1: Work 1SC into 4th CH from hook, *work 1DC into next ST, work 1SC into next ST. Repeat from * until end (ending with 1DC into last CH) (11STS), turn

Row 2: CH1, 1SC into same ST, 1DC into next ST. *Work 1SC into next ST, work 1DC into next ST. Repeat from * until end (ending with 1SC into 3rd of 3CH) (11STS), turn

Row 3: CH3 (counts as 1DC), work 1SC into next ST. *Work 1DC into next ST, work 1SC into next ST. Repeat from * until end (ending with 1DC into last SC) (11STS), turn

 

Rows 2 and 3 form the pattern – Repeat these rows until work measures approx. 16cm

in last row, turn

 

Head:
Row 1: CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each ST until end (11SC), turn

Row 2: CH1, work 2SC into same ST, work 1SC into next 9SC, work 2SC into last SC (13SC), turn

Row 3: CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each ST until end (13SC), turn

Row 4: CH1, work 2SC into same ST, work 1SC into next 11SC, work 2SC into last SC (15SC), turn

Row 5-8: CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each ST until end (15SC), turn

Row 9: CH1, SC2tog, work 1SC into next 11SC, SC2tog (13SC), turn

Row 10: CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each ST until end (13SC), turn

Row 11: CH1, SC2tog, work 1SC into next 9SC, SC2tog (11SC), turn

Row 12: CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each ST until end (11SC), turn

 

Ears:

Row 1-2: CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each 4STS until end (5SC), turn

Row 3: CH1, SC2tog, work 1SC into next 1SC, SC2tog (3SC), turn

Row 4: CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each 2STS until end (3SC), turn

Row 5: SC3tog. FO and cut yarn

Rejoin yarn on the other side and repeat instructions for ear. DO NOT CUT YARN – continue working in the round and SL ST loosely into each ST and row. FO and weave in ends

 

Straps:

Bottom –
With cream yarn and 4.00mm hook, with wrong side facing join yarn into the 5th ST with a SC, work 1SC into next 4 STS (5SC), turn

Row 2-20: CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each 4STS until end (5SC), turn

with right side facing, SL ST loosely into each ST and row. FO and weave in ends.

Top –

With cream yarn and 4.00mm hook, with right side facing join yarn into the 5th ST just below head with a SC, work 1SC into next 4 STS (5SC), turn

Row 2-20: CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each 4STS until end (5SC), turn

Row 21: CH1, work 1HDC into same ST, work 1HDC into next ST, CH1, skip 1ST, work 1HDC into next 2STS, turn

Row 22: CH1, work 1HDC into same ST, work 1HDC into next ST, work 1HDC into 1CH space, work 1HDC into next 2STS.

Repeat row 21 and 22 until there are 5 button holes, turn and SL ST loosely into each ST and row. FO and weave n ends.

Sew 5 small buttons onto the bottom strap to correspond with the button holes on the top strap.

Cheeks: (make 2)
With brown yarn and 4.00mm hook make a magic ring

This part is made in continuous rounds, a stitch marker maybe useful

Rnd 1: Make 6SC into ring

Rnd 2: Work 2SC into each SC (12SC)

Rnd 3: *Work 2SC into next SC, work 1SC into next SC. Repeat from * until end of round (18SC)

Rnd 4 – 5: Work 1SC into each SC until end of round (18SC)
SL ST into next SC, FO and leave a tail for sewing cheek onto head.

Eyes: (make 2)
With brown yarn and 4.00mm hook make a magic ring

This part is made in continuous rounds, a stitch marker maybe useful

Rnd 1: Make 6SC into ring

Rnd 2: Work 2SC into each SC (12SC)

Rnd 3-4: Work 1SC into each SC until end of round (12SC)

SL ST into next SC, FO and leave a tail for sewing eye onto head.

Sew cheeks and eyes into position onto head. Embroider black French knots onto eyes and 3 whiskers onto each cheek.

FO and weave in all ends.
