Mug Rug Crochet Patterns
This week I’ve located a selection of Free Mug Rug Crochet Patterns for you to make. These small mug mats are worked in rows and are perfect for using up some of your yarn stash.
Did you know that Mug Rugs are traditionally designed to be larger than a standard coaster? This is because they are actually mini placemats (not coasters) and their larger size is to accommodate a mug and a small snack.
I thought they were just cool coasters that looked like mats! I’ve included links to patterns for both the mini placemat mug rugs and a few mug rug coasters (that are wishing they had room for a snack!).
If you prefer round coasters, last week’s post which includes many round coaster pattern links can be found here.
I have also included an eBook link at the very end of the post for Farmhouse Mug Mats (available to purchase from Annie’s Craft Store). I’ve had it on my wish list and think you might like it too!

Hi Joanne, I went over and watched her video and yes she is doing a chain 1 between the single crochet stitches, when she skips one stitch. So any time she is skipping a stitch, chain 1. Hope this helps! Rhondda
hello,
In the boho orange coaster it appears you are doing a ch 1 between each sc st on every
row, but this is not mentioned in the written instructions. Am I seeing this correctly????
thanks Joanne
I really like all of the different mug rugs. Great designs. I would like to see someone do one with a waterproof backing that you can use in the summer humidity & you cold drinks that won’t ruin your wood tables.
I’m making the striped Mug Rug by Lindsey Dale in beachy colors for my daughter but I really like the Modern Mug Rugs designed by Sheila Houle.
I’m not one for mug rugs but these ones are exceptional. I can’t wait to make one once I figure out which one to do. Decisions, decisions lol.
