More Native American Potholders Review

More Native American Potholders includes 7 easy-to-crochet, double thickness potholder crochet patterns. These beautiful potholders are a great gift idea and a fantastic portable project to take with you while you are travelling during the holidays.

Each of these Southwest Native American themed potholder designs is crocheted with medium weight yarn [4] and a 4 mm (G) hook.   Instructions include a written pattern (US Crochet Terms) plus an optional graph for those who prefer to work from a graph.

Be sure to read the notes on page 2 and 3 before you begin. It explains how you crochet the potholders and the technique that is used. There is also a helpful video if you are a visual learner.

Easy to Learn Crochet Technique

These potholders are easier to crochet than you would think and with Carol’s helpful step-by-step video tutorial you will be able to master the technique easily.
.
The More Native American Potholders crochet patterns are crocheted with an easy-to-learn method where you work with only one color of yarn at a time, using a dropped double crochet stitch technique. The effect is similar to Mosaic Knitting but it’s crochet! This is the same technique that was used years ago when making the Navajo Afghans (Trail of Tears Afghans) that were so very popular.
.
Instead of trying to juggle more than one color of yarn at a time for each row you work, this technique allows you to crochet your stitches into the remaining front loop of a stitch 2 rows prior and add a different color simply!
.
All the color changes take place at the beginning of the rows so this means you are only working with a single color of yarn at a time.
.
Only simple stitches are used to make this afghan, so I feel a determined beginner would be able to master the pattern. You will only need to understand where to find the front loops and back loops of your stitches, single crochet, double crochet and slip stitches.  I love how easy this technique makes it to crochet mosaic designs.
