Designed for warmth and style, this scarf works up fast and looks great worn long or wrapped around your neck. The touch of sparkle adds a subtle shine, making it a fun and easy project to crochet in an evening.

March Madness Scarf – Easy Super Chunky Crochet Scarf Pattern

My free March Madness Scarf pattern is very easy to crochet. You need 3 balls of Celestial Super Chunky Yarn to make both the beginner scarf and the matching hat. I will be publishing the March Madness Hat next Sunday.

The Yarn

For this month’s Crochet Club Patterns, I used King Cole Celestial Super Chunky Weight Yarn. This 99% acrylic yarn (the polyester sparkle strand makes up the other 1% of the yarn) is soft, warm and the perfect choice for winter and fall wearables.

King Cole Celestial Chunky Jupiter yarn

There are quite a few shade options available in this yarn line.

Helpful Tutorial

Notes:

  • Multiple of 1+2 for the turning chain
  • When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. I recommend working under the back bar / back bump of the chain for this project as it gives you the finished edge that matches the last row worked for this project.
  • Initial ch 2 does NOT count as 1 hdc. This means we work into the stitch at the base of the ch 2. The first st of each row will have the turning chain 2 and 1 hdc.
  • When you reach the turning chain for each row, skip it. We do not work into it.
  • To make this scarf longer, chain more stitches using the stitch multiple.
  • To make this scarf wider, work more rows.
