Warm Winter Ski Hat Pattern for Children and Adults

Warm Winter Ski Hats Pattern Oombawka Design

I have made winter ski masks every year for my children and they are perfect for playing outside in the wintertime and at school. Their ears and sensitive skin are covered and safe from the harsh cold air. The mask allows you to pull the bottom part of the eye hole down and can be tucked beneath the chin for those wearers reluctant to have their noses and mouths covered. My son (until this year) has always wanted his face ‘free’.  This has been the perfect solution to our cold Canadian Winters and my children love wearing them. I hope your children enjoy these masks too.

I’ve included adult options (small, medium and large) for this pattern as well because I hate the cold and when I have to be outside for more than 5 minutes I wear my winter ski mask too.

For any of my hat patterns that I have started with a double magic ring (see this tutorial) you can just as easily crochet a regular magic ring or begin by crocheting a chain-3 and slip stitch to join to the first chain to form a ring and then work your stitches directly into that ring.

Notes

  • this project is worked in the back loop only
  • this project is worked in rounds – you will find it helpful to use a stitch marker
  • the initial ch 1 does not count as a stitch and we do not work into it
  • you do not slip stitch to join or chain any additional stitches unless it is specifically written in the instructions below
  • please use a stitch marker to mark your place at the beginning of the round
  • The hat pictured (my son’s) has an additional 5 rounds as he likes to tuck it into his coat. I’ve included the additional length option at the end of each size hat below.
