Little Girl’s Flower Purse

My daughter already likes to play ‘grown up’ and requested  a ‘purse’ like Mommy’s 🙂

The purse has a small pocket in the front and an adjustable strap!

Girl’s Flower Purse

Skill Level:

Easy

Materials:

  • 50 grams of light weight worsted yarn in pink
  • 10 – 25 grams of light weight worsted yarn in purple, green, yellow, cream and blue
  • Size 4.00 mm Hook
  • 2 x 5cm plastic key rings (or anything suitable)
  • 7 x assorted flower buttons (or any that are suitable)
  • Yarn Needle

Abbreviations:

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

tr – treble crochet

sl st – slip stitch

 

Gauge: Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

Finished Size:

Approx 24 cm in width & 18 cm in length (without straps)

 

Instructions:

Note: Everything is made using the 4.00mm hook and light weight worsted yarn

I used the following pattern stitch to make my base for my purse:

Base:

With Pink  yarn

CH 44

Work 53 rows in the following pattern:

Fasten off and weave in tails.

Sides:

With Purple yarn

Starting in one corner and working 1 SC into each row – work up 53 stitches along one side

continue working Base pattern for 4 rows – or optional work 4 rows SC.

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Repeat instructions for other side.

Fold purse in half and with yarn needle and the sewing tail – sew the sides closed.
Flip purse inside out and “pop” purple sides inwards.

Top:

With Green yarn

Starting in the first ST of a pink row, join green yarn with a SC

Work 1 SC into each ST – when reaching the purple section, work 2 SC into purple part – see photo for guide.

Continue working 1 SC into each ST along pink section, work 2 SC into purple part.

Join with a SL ST into first SC worked, CH1

Rnd 2 – 4: Work 1 SC into each ST all around, SL ST into first SC worked, CH1

Rnd 5: *CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into same ST, SKIP 2 STS, SL ST into next ST.
Repeat from * until end of round.

Fasten off and weave in tails.

Strap:

With Blue yarn

Note: this can be made as short or as long as desired, just add stitches

Before starting chain leave a tail for sewing

 

CH110

Row 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 1 SC into next 99 STS (leave 10 CH unworked at end of row, TURN, CH1

Row 2 – 3: Work 1 SC into each ST until end, TURN, CH1 (100 SC)

Row 4: Work 1 SC into each ST until end, CH 10

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing

Create a loop with the 10 unworked CH stitches – use photo as guide.
Sew in tails as shown in photo, weave in ends.

Pocket:

With Yellow yarn

CH 16

Row 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 1 SC into each ST until end, TURN, CH1

Row 2 – 14: Work 1 SC into each ST until end, TURN, CH 1

After last row, TURN and SL ST all around pocket.

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing

Sew pocket into position, leaving the top unworked (open)

Flower:

With Cream/White yarn

Make a magic ring

*CH3, work 1 DC, 1 TR, 1 DC into ring, CH3, SL ST into ring.

Repeat from * 4 more time (5 petals made)

Close ring, fasten off and leave a tail for sewing

Sew flower button onto flower, then sew flower onto pocket.

Attach the two plastic key rings (or suitable equivalent) through
the top rows of the purple sections – use photos as guide

Sew buttons ( 3 on each side) approx. 5 – 8 cm from end of strap.
Insert each end of strap through a key ring and fasten loop over a flower button.

The 3 flower buttons creates an adjustable strap 🙂
