Lindsey Crochet Beanie Pattern

This is the final of the four patterns I designed using my skein of Caron Colorama O’Go Yarn.

Yarnspirations sent me a Caron Colorama O’Go Yarn to try and it really was Tangle-Free! You can pull the yarn from either end and it is so easy to work with. My favorite part was that I didn’t have to stop to untangle or unwind, I could just crochet and crochet and crochet.

For all of the projects, except my Lindsey Beanie, I worked with the yarn color as it came out of the skein. For the Lindsey Beanie after my grey was finished, it looped to the bright green and I did not like that for the final round of the hat so I pulled the teal color that was on the other end of the skein and used it instead. Easy peasy!

Lindsey Crochet Beanie Pattern

Supplies

• Yarn: Yarnspirations. Caron Colorama O’Go Yarn. (affiliate link) 6.4 oz (180 g) and 228 yds (208 m). 100% Acrylic. Bulky Weight Yarn [5]. Machine washable and dryable.
• Colors: 1 skein Baja
• Hook: 6 mm (J) Furls Streamline Swirl Cookies N’ Cream hook.  (affiliate link)
• Finished Project: Teen Hat: 2.02 oz (57 g) and 72.2 yds (65.9 m)
• Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker

This hat is designed between mid-ear and the base of the earlobe.

Preemie height 4.5 inches X 10 inches circumference

Newborn height 4.75 inches X 12 inches circumference

0-3 months height 6 inches X 14 inches circumference

3-6 months height 6.4 inches X 15 inches circumference

6-12 months height 6.6 inches X 16 inches circumference

12-24 months height 7 inches X 17 inches circumference

Small Child Hat (age 3-5 years) height 7.6 inches X 18 inches circumference

Child Hat (age 6-10 years) height 7.9 inches X 19 inches circumference

Teen Hat height 8.3 inches X 20 inches circumference

Adult Hat (Medium) height 8.6 inches X 21 inches circumference

Adult Hat (Large) height 9.1 inches X 22 inches circumference

Gauge

Approximately 8 sts per 4 inches and 7 rows worked in pattern repeat per 4 inches 

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size, and amount of yarn used for your project will also be different.

Abbreviations

US Terminology used

BPsc – back post single crochet

Sk the next st, 1 dc in the next st, working in front of the last st worked, 1 dc in the sk st.

• Stitch multiple: 2 (Understanding Stitch Multiples)
• Crochet stitch pattern : Crossed Double Crochet Variation
• The initial ch-3 does not count as a stitch.
• The initial ch-2 does not count as a stitch.
• The initial ch-1 does not count as a stitch.
• The sl st does not count as a stitch.
• Make your sl st tightly.
• You may customize the hat height by working the repeat as many, or as few, times as you wish. Every 2 rounds you add with the stitch pattern, will add approximately 1 inch of height to the hat. 
• If you would like to add a little bit more height to the hat, work an additional round (or two) of sc in the back loop only. 
• I use an invisible join to finish off my final round of stitches, you may substitute a sl st to join if you prefer.

Preemie Lindsey Crochet Beanie

Using your 6 mm (J) hook (or size required for gauge):

Rnd 1: DMR: Ch 3 (does not count as a stitch), 12 dc, sl st to the first st to join. [12 dc]

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (does not count as a stitch). *2 dc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st**. Work from * to ** 8 times. 1 dc in each rem st around.  Sl st to the first st to join. Turn. [20 dc]

Rnd 3: (RS) Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch). Xdc around. Sl st to the first st to join. Turn. [10 Xdc]

Rnd 4: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch). 1 sc in each st around. Sl st to the first st to join. Turn. [20 sc]

Rnd 5-Rnd 6: Rep Rnd 3 and Rnd 4.

Rnd 7: 1 BPsc in each st around. [20 BPsc]

Rnd 3: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), 1 sc in each st around. Sl st to the first st to join. [24 sc]

Rnd 4: (RS) Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch). Xdc around. Sl st to the first st to join. Turn. [12 Xdc]

Rnd 5: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch). 1 sc in each st around. Sl st to the first st to join. Turn. [20 sc]
