Lacy Wraps Review

If you are looking for a way to add a little extra style to your wardrobe, Lacy Wraps includes 8 lacy shawl designs for you to choose from.

The patterns are written in American Crochet Terms and they are all listed as Easy Skill Level projects. The yarns used to crochet these projects range from fine weight [2] to bulky weight [5] yarn.

The General Instructions begin on page 28 and include the Abbreviations, Symbols & Terms, Crochet Terminology, Yarn Weight Symbols, Difficulty Levels and Hook Sizes.

Crochet Terms

You will also find the following terms outlined:

  • Gauge
  • Joining with a sc
  • Joining with a dc
  • Back ridge (with diagram)
  • Back or front loop only (with diagram)
  • Post Stitch (with diagram)
  • Working in space before a stitch (with diagram)
  • Fringe (with diagrams)

The written instructions are presented in an easy to follow format and the special stitches used for each design are included (with diagrams if necessary) at the very beginning of each pattern. I personally like this because it makes it easy to reference the stitches you need to crochet when you are working on the design.

The Designs included are:

  • Fiesta – 14½”h x 55″w – Medium Weight Yarn [4] and 6 mm (J) hook
  • Chain Links – 17½”h x 63¾”w – Light Weight Yarn [3] and 6 mm (J) hook
  • Filigree – 18″h x 50″w – Light Weight Yarn [3] and a 6 mm (J) hook
  • Pearls – 18½”h x 48¼”w – Medium Weight Yarn [4] and a 9 mm (M/N) hook
  • Escape – 20″h x 67¼”w –  Bulky Weight Yarn [5] and a 15 mm (P/Q) hook
  • Color Splash – 18″h x 47″w – Fine Weight Yarn [2] and a 6 mm (J) hook
  • Granny Connection – 16½”h x 57½”w – Light Weight Yarn [3] and a 6 mm (J) hook
  • Grace – 15½” x 62½” – Light Weight Yarn [3] and a 6 mm (J) hook

The size measurements listed above do not include the fringe measurements.

The Samples were crocheted using:

Fiesta: Lion Brand® Shawl in a Ball® #202 Calming Desert
Chain Links: Lion Brand® Vanna’s Style #113 Red
Filigree: Lion Brand Collection® Superwash Merino #174 Spring Leaf
Pearls: Red Heart® Unforgettable® #3930 Pearly
Escape: Patons® Peak™ #21007 Imperial Blue
Color Splash:  Premier® Cotton Fair™  Variegated – #32-09 Violets and White – # 27-01 White
Granny Connection: Lion Brand Collection®  Superwash Merino #147 Purple
Grace: Lion Brand Collection® Superwash Merino #170 Dijon

I love that the yarns used to design these projects are yarns I can find locally and at shops I purchase from online.

Ohhhh Lacy Wraps… MUST. GET. THIS. BOOK. Love lacy openwork shawls! Current WIP is similar to the Chain Links… but it doesn’t have a closed-work part at the top: IT IS ALL CHAINS with sc for anchors. really nice & drapy!

Awesome review! Thanks for such an in depth description of the book! I’m not new to crochet but I am nowhere near intermediate, you’re review of this book gives me the confidence of being able to complete the 8 projects. One thing I dislike about some patterns is having to go lookup how to do the stitches but with this book, you say it gives all the info needed. Thanks again for a great review!!
