This is another V-Stitch Variation you can use to make your crochet projects.  You can view our other dishcloth tutorials below too if you are looking for a different v-stitch pattern to try, or another stitch. We have more than 60 different stitches now available in this collection. The stitch multiple has been included to allow you to use the stitch for other projects.

Lacy V-Stitch Tutorial & Crochet Dishcloth

Lacy V Stitch Dishcloth

Supplies

  • Yarn:  Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Medium Weight Yarn [4].
  • Hook 5.5 mm (I) and a  5 mm (H) Orange Osage Hook was used for the 4 inch by 4 inch square.
  • Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker (optional)

Difficulty Level

EASY

Finished Size

6 inches by 6 inches
9 inches and 12 inches are available at the end of the post
4 inches by 4 inches was added to the end of the post on March 28, 2018. A simple edging has also been included at the end of the post to allow you to use this square as an afghan square.

Gauge

approximately 13 sts per 4 inches and 6 rows per 4 inches

Abbreviations

US Terminology used

beg – beginning
ch – chain
ch1sp – chain one space
dc – double crochet
R – row/round
RS – right side (aka as the ‘pretty side’ of your work)
rem – remaining
rep – repeat
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
sl st – slip stitch
st/sts – stitch/stitches
* – Repeat the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain of multiple instructions.
() – Repeat the instructions between the parentheses the number of times indicated.
[] – at the end of the row – the total number of stitches

V-Stitch Dishcloth Pattern Instructions

Size: 6 inches by 6 inches

R1: Ch 22, 1 dc in the 4th ch from the hook (sk 3 ch counts as 1 dc), ch 1, 1 dc in the next ch, *sk next ch, 1 dc in the next ch, ch 1, 1 dc in the next ch**. Rep from * to ** across to the last 2 chs. Sk 1 ch, 1 dc in the last ch. Turn [20]

Row 1 Lacy V Stitch Square

R2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc). In each ch1sp across work (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc). Work 1 dc in the top of the turning ch. Turn. [20]

R2 Lacy V Stitch Dishcloth

R3-R9: Rep R2.

Edging

Working around the edges of your project:

R1: Work 18 sc on each side, and 2 sc in each corner. Work 1 sl st into the same st as the last st worked. Turn to work along the side edge.

R2: *Sk the next st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc), sl st to the next sc.** Rep from * to ** 6 times. Sl st in both corner sts.

Turn to work along the bottom edge. *Sk the next st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc), sl st to the next sc.** Rep from * to ** 6 times. Sl st in both corner sts.

Turn to work along the other side edge. *Sk the next st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc), sl st to the next sc.** Rep from * to ** 6 times. Sl st in both corner sts.

Turn to work along the top edge. *Sk the next st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc), sl st to the next sc.** Rep from * to ** 6 times. Sl st in both corner sts.

Finish off with an invisible join and weave in your ends.


Size: 9 inches by 9 inches

R1: Ch 31, 1 dc in the 4th ch from the hook (sk 3 ch counts as 1 dc), ch 1, 1 dc in the next ch, *sk next ch, 1 dc in the next ch, ch 1, 1 dc in the next ch**. Rep from * to ** across to the last 2 chs. Sk 1 ch, 1 dc in the last ch. Turn [30]

R2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc). In each ch1sp across work (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc). Work 1 dc in the top of the turning ch. Turn. [30]

R3-R14: Rep R2.

Edging

R1: Work 27 sc on each side, and 2 sc in each corner. Work 1 sl st into the same st as the last st worked. Turn to work along the side edge.

R2: *Sk the next st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc), sl st to the next sc.** Rep from * to ** 9 times. Sl st in both corner sts.

Turn to work along the bottom edge. *Sk the next st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc), sl st to the next sc.** Rep from * to ** 9 times. Sl st in both corner sts.

Turn to work along the other side edge. *Sk the next st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc), sl st to the next sc.** Rep from * to ** 9

Turn to work along the top edge. *Sk the next st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc), sl st to the next sc.** Rep from * to ** 9 times. Sl st in both corner sts.

Finish off with an invisible join and weave in your ends.


Size: 12 inches by 12 inches

R1: Ch 39, 1 dc in the 4th ch from the hook (sk 3 ch counts as 1 dc), ch 1, 1 dc in the next ch, *sk next ch, 1 dc in the next ch, ch 1, 1 dc in the next ch**. Rep from * to ** across to the last 2 chs. Sk 1 ch, 1 dc in the last ch. Turn [40]

R2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc). In each ch1sp across work (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc). Work 1 dc in the top of the turning ch. Turn. [40]

R3-R18: Rep R2.

Edging

R1: Work 36 sc on each side, and 2 sc in each corner. Work 1 sl st into the same st as the last st worked. Turn to work along the side edge.

R2: *Sk the next st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc), sl st to the next sc.** Rep from * to ** 12 times. Sl st in both corner sts.

Turn to work along the bottom edge. *Sk the next st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc), sl st to the next sc.** Rep from * to ** 12 times. Sl st in both corner sts.

Turn to work along the other side edge. *Sk the next st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc), sl st to the next sc.** Rep from * to ** 12 times. Sl st in both corner sts.

Turn to work along the top edge. *Sk the next st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc), sl st to the next sc.** Rep from * to ** 12 times. Sl st in both corner sts.

Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends.


Size: 4 inches by 4 inches

This size only uses: 5 mm (H) Orange Osage Hook

R1: Ch 12, 1 dc in the 4th ch from the hook (sk 3 ch counts as 1 dc), ch 1, 1 dc in the next ch, *sk next ch, 1 dc in the next ch, ch 1, 1 dc in the next ch**. Rep from * to ** across to the last 2 chs. Sk 1 ch, 1 dc in the last ch. Turn [10]

R2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc). In each ch1sp across work (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc). Work 1 dc in the top of the turning ch. Turn. [10]

R3-R5: Rep R2.

OPTIONAL EDGING

Work 1 sc in each st and each row end and in each corner work: 1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc. Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends.
