You can visit the Voting Post here: Choose Your Own CAL of the Month for July to see the votes which were cast and remember to favorite and queue the other 2 projects for later if you loved them too! For your convenience here are the 2 other projects you might wish to save for later:

Dropstitch Cocoon Sweater by Susan Heyn at Red Heart

The Cocoon Cardigan by Jess Coppom

The pattern you voted for us to crochet for July’s Project is:

Granny Cocoon Shrug by Maria Valles
Nadia from YARNutopia’s Granny Cocoon Shrug

Granny Cocoon Shrug by Maria Valles

Yarn: Medium Weight Yarn (Aran) 1 strand
Hook: 8 mm (L)
Finished Sizes: One Size Fits Most
Video from Nadia at YARNutopia

I’m going to watch Nadia’s Video

to see which yarn and hook (I think it is Red Heart Super Saver) she chose to make her Granny Cocoon Shrug with and then pick something similar too! The yarn Maria Valles (the Designer) used looks beautiful (check out her project photo HERE) but it is not available anywhere locally for me at this time. I’m very excited to make this project and I hope you are too! Maria has tips and tricks in her post write up HERE and Nadia has helpful information and sizing information (to make this bigger for us Plus-Size Ladies) HERE.

What You Need To Do To Get Ready:

1. Choose Your Yarn!

2. Create Your Project Page on Ravelry HERE

Choose Add to Favorites and Hook It! to set up your Project Page.

If you need help with this, here is a walk-through tutorial to show you how to add your Project on Ravelry. I thank you in advance for creating your project pages. It helps us keep track of the number of participants who complete their projects each month and it helps us decide which types of projects you enjoy (both for type and difficulty level!) for future Months.

3. If you need help with your CAL project, or you want to share your progress in a group setting; join us in the CWU CAL Group on Facebook!

See you back on July 1st for the Official Start Date of our

  1. I have had my eye on this granny for a long time! Thank you for this opportunity!

  2. Hi,

I am excited to do this CAL. I wanted to see if you thought Red Heard Soft would work? I am not a member of the Facebook group yet, but I have put in my request.

    Thank you in advance!
    Stephanie

  3. Hi Lisa, I know there is a “recipe” for how to make the cocoon available on the Designer’s site but she doesn’t specifically walk us through it row by row. I haven’t watched Nadia’s Video yet but I suspect she will walk us through the project one round at a time – but I’ve also contacted the Designer to ask if I may share how to make the granny square in a post for everyone to use for the CAL. If she agrees I will add this as soon as I can 🙂 All the best, Rhondda (PS our group will be able to help each other too so feel free to ask questions there if you run into trouble)

  4. I would love to have this pattern . As I would like to make this for myself

  5. Thank you for the information! I might be doing this cocoon as I honestly will need it come fall!
