Here’s how it works.
Air Plants are a super popular and trendy right now. You can put these little guys ANYWHERE! You can glue them to rocks or even just leave them out on the counter. You can even put them in your little indoor Fairy Gardens OR you can hang them – practically anywhere. No dirt is needed!
They are a fun way to add living plants to your home because even if you do not have a green thumb Air Plants are resilient. I have picked up a few from the one local nursery here in the area that carries them year-round and designed this Itsy Bitsy Tiered Air Plant Holder to hang them wherever I want…which means even if my room doesn’t have a ledge for a pot I can hang these up and they will thrive.
There are some care tips here at this great Air Plant site, including when the Air Plants can have full sun and when they should be more protected so they don’t ‘burn’ from the heat – how to water them (which is pretty easy – they like to be placed in a bowl of water for a few hours a week) and then to let them dry before putting them back into their containers or pots (they don’t like to sit in the ‘wet’ because they can rot).

Notes
- The little tiered baskets are crocheted in continuous rounds – this means you do not need to slip stitch to join or chain additional stitches at the beginning of the round. You will need to mark your position with a stitch marker of some sort to keep track of the beginning/ending of the rounds.
- You may substitute any level 3 or DK weight yarn for this project.
- If you need an even smaller Air Plant Holder like I did for the long armed Air Plant pictured below work the following pattern in single crochet in regular loops (not just back loops) and only repeat R3 2 times (instead of 3). It gives you a slightly smaller basket perfect for these top heavy fellas 🙂
