The Yarn

I love working with King Cole, Drifter Aran yarn. It is soft and beautifully colored. It flows easily across my hook and can be worked straight from the skein (I didn’t need to wind it first).

Drifter Aran is a beautiful product to crochet with and the finished projects are super soft to the touch and warm as well! My stitches retain their stitch definition and the fabric doesn’t fluff or pill even after repeat wear. The yarn has a beautiful Fair Isle effect.

King Cole Drifter Aran Yarn is available in 14-different colors. It is a blended yarn, made up of Premium Acrylic (79%), Cotton (17%) and Wool (4%). It is easy to work with and the colors are muted and soft.

Drifter Aran King Cole Yarn - Oombawka

If you are new to King Cole Yarns and you are interested in trying one of their products, I definitely recommend their Drifter line of yarns.

They have Drifter available in 4plyDK for Baby, DK, Drifter Aran and Chunky and they also have Drifter in Subtle for Chunky and DK. The Subtle Drifter line has a gentle two-tone appearance in a single shade; instead of the variegated appearance of the Drifter line.

You can find a local yarn shop that sells King Cole Yarns here.

Notes

  • this project is worked in joined rounds
  • Initial ch 3 counts as 1 dc
  • Initial ch 2 does not count as a stitch and we do not work into it
  • Do not count the sl st as a stitch and do not work into it
  • the first st of each round is worked in the same st as you sl st to join
  • To decrease the finished hat height by 1 inch decrease your repeat rounds by 2.
  • TIP: if the seam line is visible to you, you can finish off after the main hat pattern and rejoin your yarn on the opposite side to the seam, before beginning the brim.
  • For a shorter brim stop after Brim Round 6 before proceeding to Brim Round 9.
  • For a brimless hat, after the Main Hat section, work 1 round of sc stitches, finish off and weave in ends.
