Hearts at Home Afghan & Pillows

This month, Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs has given me a copy of her Hearts at Home Afghan and Pillows Pattern to review and a second copy to giveaway to one of my readers! This electronic booklet includes 7 pages of written instructions to make a cozy afghan with 2 styles of matching pillows.

Read my review for more details about this pattern, and don’t forget to enter here for a chance to win your own copy of the Hearts at Home Afghan and Pillows pattern.

These patterns are much easier to crochet than you might think! Watch Carol’s helpful step-by-step video tutorial to see how simple it is to master the dropped double crochet technique.

The patterns use only single crochet stitches worked in the back loop of a stitch, and double crochet stitches worked in a remaining front loop of a stitch from 2 rows before. This technique is similar to a ldc — long double crochet — but it is worked in the remaining front loop of the stitch, which creates the raised design you see.

The pattern is worked on the RS (right side) only, and you will finish off the strand of yarn you are working with at the end of every row. The project is designed to allow you to create a fringe on the left and right side edges of the blanket. You will not have any ends to sew in! The pillows are equally easy to make and the fringe is hidden on the inside.

  1. My favorite Shady Laane design has always been Nite Nite Teddy Bear Afghan, #419, but Baby Toys Afghan is a close second.
