This easy to crochet hat pattern is worked in a continuous spiral. The beautiful texture created by the enlarged band adds a great design element perfectly suited for both men and women.

The hat pattern is available in multiple sizes (preemie to adult) and in 2 different lengths. Making this both a great go-to hat for children for school and for chemo caps and preemie caps because it is designed to fit to the base of the earlobe. If you’d like it even longer it is very easy to add an extra increase round of either the textured band or the main hat rounds.

The pattern has a slight variation at the end based on the way it is worked but it allows for a seamless design and when you are wearing it, this small variation is almost impossible to find.

For those of you who want to see how the seam on this hat looks I’ve snapped a quick picture of it on the table. Please note when this is on someone’s head you will be hard pressed to find this seam!

last stitch of hat Peridot Textured Hat Pattern - almost invisible hat seam

If you prefer to have the full double crochet joining seam running the length of the hat, replace the initial sc with a ch 3 and then sl st to join and ch 3 for every round of the hat until the very final round.

I hope you love this pattern and I can’t wait to see the color combinations you choose to make it in! I am going to be making one up for my children using red at the top and white for the band and I will add a photo soon 🙂 When changing colors be sure to finish off the one round using an invisible join before rejoining using a Standing Front Post Double Crochet. This is worked the same as a standing double crochet except you will work it over the post of the stitch instead of into the top loops of the stitch.

Red Heart sent me free samples of Red Heart Super Saver to make some new crochet projects. Here is one of the free hat patterns I’ve come up with with the yarn.  You can substitute any Red Heart Super Saver yarn for the yarn I used in this pattern. If you are crocheting a hat for donation purposes for Preemies, Newborns or as Chemo Caps, I personally recommend substituting Baby Hugs Medium Yarn instead.  It is certified safe according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class I, soft and easy to clean. If you’d like to read my review for the Baby Hugs Yarn please see this post: Sweet Little Baby Hugs Preemie Cap

Notes

  • This project is worked in continuous rounds. You do not need to slip stitch to join, or ch 3 at the beginning of any of the rounds; instead mark the first stitch with a stitch marker and just keep crocheting around the hat for each round.
  • This hat is basically seamless.
  • The length of this hat is to the base of the earlobe, but I have also provided instructions at the end of each size to make the hat shorter.
  • If you are having trouble maintaining your gauge on the post stitch rounds please change your hook to the next size up 6 mm (J) to help you relax your gauge for the post stitch rounds only.
