I love the stitch – I love the simplicity and balance of the finished fabric – I love the embellishment – I love the brown…yes I love brown…and gray…and dark blue…for myself – creams and beiges too – those are my ‘comfort’ colours…do you have comfort colours? Ones you tend to gravitate toward? Anywho – the brown headband caught my eye and I had to take a closer look…
and I am very happy that I did.
I crocheted my first headband in Bernat Handicrafter Cotton – from my stash (I have a lot of Handicrafter Cotton – purchased from the Big Ball Sale last summer at the Spinrite Factory Outlet Tent Sale) – and a 4.00 mm hook.
When I saw this pattern last week (and shared it on Facebook) I knew I wanted to make it –
A Crochet Bucket List Project (CBL Project)
Flower Girl Cottage – FREE Crochet Headband and Flower Patterns
I crocheted this headband to reach a length of 20″ (because it is for me!) instead of the 18″ in the pattern – but everything else I followed exactly –
This hooked up in less than an hour. The stitch is addictive and easy to work! Love, love, love…and I want to make more 🙂
…and I have…
I used Lion Brand Yarn’s – Recycled Cotton – and a 4.00 mm hook – I needed to increase to 6-sets of stitches to reach a 4″ width – I also crocheted this to a length of 20″.
The flower on this one is my own design – do you see a free Oombawka Design pattern in your future 😉
The only discrepancy between my finished project and the original project – was my finished width.
Flower Girl Cottage indicates the finished width should be approximately 5″
Using Bernat Handicrafter Cotton (which is usually interchangeable to Lily’s Cotton Yarn) I only reached a 4″ width when following the instructions.
I think 5″ might be too wide for my head – so this is a happy discrepancy for me 😉 but if you need the full 5″ width you may need to recalculate your beginning chain to increase by another set of 4-stitches; if you gauge is as tight as mine!
The Five Petal Daisy Crochet Pattern from Flower Girl Cottage was extremely easy to crochet – a super quick embellishment. You will need to have some fabric glue on hand to finish the flower in the same manner as the one depicted in the photograph – but you can substitute a bead, or a button if you don’t have the glue on hand.

Rhondda thank you very much this will help me a lot. Have a nice day
Hi Louise, I use this size chart for my head sizes: https://kateoatesdesign.com/sizing and for headbands I subtract 3 ” from the head size for most sizes (babies would be a little bit less since they have small heads to start with). Hope this helps 🙂 Rhondda
Please can u help me with measurements off a 9 year and a 6 year for headbands
