Here’s how it works.
This month our Featured Charity, Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation is being presented by Marie from Underground Crafter.
Social media is a powerful tool – let’s use it together to get these charitable organizations the support they need!
Please read on to learn more about Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation and how we can help.
If you are unable to help personally, please share this with your friends online – you never know – you may reach someone who is able to make a difference locally! If you would like to contribute too, we encourage you to crochet the featured free pattern this month and donate it to important cause near and dear to you. ♥ Rhondda
I’m Marie from Underground Crafter and it’s great to be back here with you and Rhondda. I’ll be sharing information about one of my favorite charitable organizations that accepts handmade donations.
I first introduced the Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation to Oombawka Design readers in this post. This website has helped connect interested crafters with charitable organizations on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, which is home to about 40,000 people in the Oglala Sioux Tribe, for over a decade. Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation maintain a regularly updated page of organizations that accept crocheted, knit, or sewn donations here. (The page also includes links to free patterns!)
Organizations on the Reservation are often seeking garments and blankets for babies and children, and winter wear. However, each organization has different requirements, so be sure to read about their current needs before shipping items.
When I was working on this post, the Little Singer Community School (which is actually a school in the Navajo Nation in Arizona) was seeking baby blankets. I designed the Crosshatch Stitch Baby Blanket with them in mind. This pattern includes a full video tutorial to guide you through every step of making the blanket. I also teamed up with Donna from Naztazia, who designed the simple T Sweater, a simple sweater for a baby or child. You can get her pattern with a video tutorial here. Both would be great for donation to the Little Single Community School or your favorite local charity for babies and children.

Thank you Tootie!
Our church has a church on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Each year we collect warm clothing yo take out to Pastor Whiteface., I crochet hats, scarves and earwarmers for them. It is a very worthy charity.
