Helpful Tutorial

Notes:

  • There should be no spaces between your stitches – use a smaller hook size if you see gaps between your stitches.
  • You may substitute your favorite starting method instead of using a double magic ring (DMR) to begin if you prefer.
  • Do not slip stitch (sl st) to join unless specified.
  • You may wish to use a stitch marker to keep the first stitch of each round as this project is crocheted in continuous rounds.
  • Colors: MC (white), CC (pink), CC2 (grey) and CC3 (black)
  • You can use your favorite joining method instead of the standing single crochet join if you prefer.
  • TIP: when making a single crochet into a stitch that already holds a slip stitch, work the sc in the front loop only.

Rnd 13-Rnd 15: 1 sc in each st around. [26 sc]

  • Place the eyes between Rnds 9 and 10 with 6 sts between the posts of the eyes (you will see 4 sc once the eyes have been placed).

Rnd 16: *Sc2tog, 1 sc in the next st**. Work from * to ** around to the last 2 sts. Sc2tog. [17 sc]

Rnd 17: *Sc2tog, 1 sc in the next st**. Work from * to ** around to the last 2 sts. 1 sc in each of the last 2 sts. [12 sc]

Finish off leaving a 8 inch yarn tail for seaming.

To close the head, place the yarn tail on a yarn needle and weave it through the front loops of each of the last 6 stitches. I used this simple closing method. Pull to tighten and close. Sew the yarn tail through the cow and the fiberfill. Trim any excess and place the head aside.

Placement Assembly - Crochet this adorable cow softie using beginner yarn and easy stitches. The Farm Friends Crochet Cow Pattern is a free pattern for advanced beginners looking to build their amigurumi skills. Great for quick gifts and handmade projects.

How to Assemble Your Crochet Cow

  • Place the head on the body and sew together. I placed my head slightly angled forward and placed a few stitches to attach the nose of the cow to the chest of the cow to keep the slight angle I preferred for the cow’s head.
  • Place horns around Rnd 4 of the head in line with the eyes. Sew in place.
  • Place ears slightly in front of the horns, between Rnd 4 and Rnd 5. Sew in place.
  • Rnd 6 of the body, on the back of the cow and sew it to the cow’s body. I sewed ⅓ of the tail to the body.
  • I placed the cow’s legs between Rnd 5 and Rnd 7 (see photos) of the body and the cow’s upper legs (aka arms) directly following the head placement on the top of the body. These were also sewn across 3 rounds.
  • Place the spots as you prefer on the cow’s body.
