Fall Slouch Hat | 6 to 12 Months Size
Size: 6 to 12 months size (to fit 18″ head size)
Supplies:
Yarn: Red Heart Soft Yarn
Hook: 4.0 mm (G) and 6 mm (J)
Finished Size:
Size: 6 to 12 months (to fit 18″ head size)
Brim: 2.0 inches wide and 12.6 inches long before assembly
Main Hat Body: approximately 19 inches wide and 8 inches long before assembly
Gauge:
Brim: Unstretched: 4.93 rows per inch; Stretched: 3.43 rows per inch
Main Hat: approximately 4 sts / inch using a 6.0 mm hook and Red Heart Soft, Worsted Weight Yarn.

Special Stitches Included in the Original Posts:
- Part 1 – Granule Stitch
- Part 2 – Woven Stitch

Important Notes:
- Chain stitches do not count as stitches unless specified in the instructions
- Do not sl st to join unless specified in the written instructions
- For a more professional look, leave a long tail of yarn at the end of each section to allow you to sew the sections of the hat together with the correct color.
- The Brim is worked back and forth in rows before being turned lengthwise to work along the row ends for the main body of the hat
- The Main Body of the Hat is worked Flat
- You will seam the hat at the very end
- If you want a less slouchy hat use a 5.5 mm (I) for the body of the hat; if you want a more fitted hat with only a tiny bit of slouch, use a 5.0 mm (H). Regardless of which hook you choose for the body of the hat be sure to use a 4 mm (G) hook for the brim/band.
Pattern Instructions
Brim (Band)
Using your 4 mm (G) hook
R1: Leave a 10-inch tail of yarn. Ch 11, beg in 2nd ch from the hook and work 1 sc in each st across, ch 1, turn [10]
R2: 1 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the bl of each of the next 8 sts across, 1 sc in the last sc, ch 1, turn [10]
R3-R63: rep R2 (your brim should now be 13 inches in length unstretched). Do not finish off.
Turn to work along the row ends of the brim you just finished.

Depending on how you wish to assemble your hat you may want to stop at R18 and then seam and weave the top closed using this method:

Or if you prefer, see below for the optional decrease rows to make the top of the hat more shaped/rounded before you weave the final row together to close the hat.

R19: 1 sc in the first sc. *sc2tog over the next 2 sts**. Rep from * to ** across. Ch 1, turn. [32]
R20: *sc2tog over the next 2 sts**. Rep from * to ** across. [16]
R21: *sc2tog over the next 2 sts**. Rep from * to ** across. Finish off leaving a long tail for assembly. [8]
Assembly:
Starting at the brim join the edges together. You can choose your favorite seaming technique to do this. Here are some helpful tutorials to assist you.
Joining Techniques for Crochet
When I join my hats together I use the same color as the section of the hat which I am seaming. If you missed the note at the beginning mentioning you should leave a long tail for each color change this is ok you can still assemble using the same color by attaching the yarn color of your choice after weaving in your other ends.
