  • For a more professional look, leave a long tail of yarn at the end of each section to allow you to sew the sections of the hat together with the correct color.
  • The Brim is worked back and forth in rows before being turned lengthwise to work along the row ends for the main body of the hat
  • The Main Body of the Hat is worked Flat
  • You will seam the hat at the very end
  • If you want a less slouchy hat use a 5.5 mm (I) for the body of the hat; if you want a more fitted hat with only a tiny bit of slouch, use a 5.0 mm (H). Regardless of which hook you choose for the body of the hat be sure to use a 4 mm (G) hook for the brim/band.

Depending on how you wish to assemble your hat you may want to stop at R24 and then seam and weave the top closed using this method:

Finishing(and scroll to the bottom of the post to the diagram and Finishing Instructions)

Or if you prefer, see below for the optional decrease rows to make the top of the hat more shaped/rounded before you weave the final row together to close the hat.

Optional Decrease Rows

R25: 1 sc in the first sc. 1 sc in each ch1sp across. 1 sc in the final sc of the row. Ch 1, turn. [35]

R26: 1 sc in the first st. *sc2tog over the next 2 sts**. Rep from * to ** across. [18]

R27: *sc2tog over the next 2 sts**. Rep from * to ** across. Finish off leaving a long tail for assembly. [9]

Assembly:

Starting at the brim join the edges together. You can choose your favorite seaming technique to do this. Here are some helpful tutorials to assist you.

Joining Techniques for Crochet

When I join my hats together I use the same color as the section of the hat which I am seaming. If you missed the note at the beginning mentioning you should leave a long tail for each color change this is ok you can still assemble using the same color by attaching the yarn color of your choice after weaving in your other ends.
