Fair Isle Crochet Mitten Patterns
Learn how to make these beautiful mittens using the Fair Isle Crochet technique.
These designs utilize the Single Crochet Fair Isle Stitch, also known as the Split Single Crochet (split sc) stitch. The stitch is illustrated in detail right at the beginning of this 67-page eBook.
The Yarn/Gauge/Hook Chart on page 17 outlines what yarn and hook combination will make what size mitten. It also includes the yardage you will need and suggests some yarns you may wish to use for the project.
For example if you are using Medium Weight Yarn [4] and a 4 mm (G) hook you will make a Men’s X-Large (lined) mitten. If you use DK/Sport Weight Yarn [3] and a 3.5 mm (E) hook you will make a Women’s Large (unlined) mitten.
It is important to refer to page 18, to learn how to use the book. You will 1) Pick the mitten size using the chart on page 17 and decide if you are making a lined, or unlined mitten. 2) Make a gauge swatch (page 20-21) to make sure that the mitten will be the right size with the yarn and hook you are using. 3) Decide which of the 3 types of mittens you want to make, regular, fingerless, or texting mittens.
All the mittens use the same written and charted instructions; you change the size based on the yarn and hook you use.
There are 2 different types of linings you can make for your mittens, Lumpy & Bumpy (p 26), or Smooth (p 30).
The Tips for Success on page 19 is very helpful! I recommend you read it.
These crochet patterns are written in US Crochet Terms. Special Pattern stitches are explained at the beginning of individual patterns and special notes are in italics.
