My free bucket hat crochet pattern is available in 5 sizes. You will need 1 skein of Lion Brand Rewind Tape Yarn in your chosen color and a 5 mm (H) crochet hook to make this brimmed summer hat.
[disclaimer] The yarn for this project was provided by Lion Brand Yarns. [/disclaimer]
When Marie told me that Lion Brand would be providing yarn for our Summer Quickies CAL I was super excited because they have a few products that I have been wanting to try that I haven’t been able to locate in the shops here in Canada.
I chose to use their Rewind Tape Yarn for my quick summer project. I decided to design an easy everyday bucket hat that you can make in just a few hours. I wanted this hat to be as hassle-free as possible, so it was designed to be made with a single skein and a 5 mm (H) crochet hook.
Overall, I loved working with the tape yarn. It is soft to the touch but allows for firm stitches with a smaller hook. I found it held my stitches perfectly and the thickness of the product was consistent from start to finish. There were a few ties within the skein that I had to cut and retie before crocheting with it, but otherwise it was super easy to work with. There were zero tangles in the yarn skein and the color was consistent throughout.
Rewind Tape Yarn is available in a number of beautiful colors and neutral palettes. You can see them all here.

Notes:
- Multiple of 1
- I use a DMR (double magic ring) to begin my projects when they are worked in rounds and spirals. You may substitute a magic ring (magic circle), or a chain 3 and slip to form a ring, if you prefer.
- Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of every round and move it forward as you start each new round.
- We do not slip stitch to join or chain additional stitches, unless otherwise indicated.
- We do not finish off between the Main Hat and Hat Band sections.
- The hat brim is worked in the FL (front loop) only until the final round of slip stitches, which are worked under both loops like a normal stitch.

Finishing Instructions for all Crochet Bucket Hat Sizes:
- Remove your hook from the working yarn and insert the hook (without a loop) into the stitch following the final slip stitch of the round, from the inside of the hat to the outside of the hat (WS – wrong side to the RS – right side).
- Pick up the loop from that last stitch that is just sitting there and pull that loop through the work to the inside of the hat.
- Chain 1. Finish off and weave ends in securely on the inside of the hat.
