Notes:

  • Ch 3 counts as 1 dc.
  • Initial ch 2 does not count as a stitch. We use it to skip over the first 2 sts of each round before we slip stitch into the first ch1sp.
  • Sl st to join is made in the first st of the round.
  • This pattern was written without color changes. I chose an ombre yarn to make my blanket.
  • If you are making this in multiple colors, finish off at the end of each round, turn your work and join the new color of yarn using a slip stitch join in the first ch1sp (the one beside your slip stitch join). You may carry your yarn or use an alternate method to change colors if you prefer.
  • From Rnd 3 to the Edging Rnd, skip all stitches not mentioned.
  • Extra photos follow the written pattern.

Crocheters Often Ask

Can I make this blanket with a different yarn weight?

You can use a different yarn weight, but your finished size and yardage will change. Start with the hook size listed on your yarn label. If your project begins to cup after Round 2, switch to a larger hook size so it lays flat.

Does this pattern include written instructions and a stitch diagram?

Yes. The pattern includes written instructions, and the ad-free PDF version also includes a stitch diagram.

Can I make just one afghan square instead of a full blanket?

You can repeat the Pattern Repeat rounds as many times as you like to reach your desired size. When you’re happy with the size, move on to the Last Round, and add the Ddging Round if you’d like a simple finished edge on your project.

Is the ad-free PDF available?

Yes. An ad-free PDF is available in my shop and includes the stitch diagram.

This blanket was designed to be a comforting, enjoyable make from start to finish. I hope it brings a little extra warmth and calm to your crochet time.

Happy crocheting!

  1. Hi 🙂 I will try to make time to write this up as a rectangle blanket soon. Thank you for letting me know you were interested 🙂

  2. Any suggestions on how somebody could make this into a rectangular blanket instead of a square? Maybe make two center motifs and join them together before starting the rounds? Would this really mess up the stitch count on the long sides?

    thanks for any help/tips –
