Here’s how it works.

Happy April Crochet Friends! For the past few years I’ve been invited to design for Tamara’s annual Moogly CAL and for this year’s MooglyCAL2024 I’ve designed an easy project for you called the Endless Afghan Square Pattern. This project is worked over an expanding 2 round repeat and can be made to any size easily – this means you can make this into and Endless Afghan Blanket if you enjoy the relaxing way the project works up.

Endless Afghan Square - Oombawka Design Crochet

Endless Afghan Square – Block 7 MooglyCAL2024

This project looks great in a single color, using striped or variegated yarn, or by alternating your yarn colors as you go.

Disclaimer: I received the yarn I used for this pattern from Yarnspirations.

For the sample I made for the crochet along I used 3 colors of Red Heart with Love yarn and I changed my colors every 2 rounds. I prefer finishing off and weaving in my yarn ends after my color changes. The yarn colors I used were Lettuce (Color A), Stone (Color B) and True Blue (Color C).

Here’s a look at Tamara’s pretty Endless Afghan Square:

Endless Afghan Square Moogly CAL Block 7 - designed by Rhondda Mol crocheted by Tamara Kelly

You can find her post about my Endless Afghan Square Pattern, Block 7 for the CAL here. If she needed to make any gauge changes or had any suggestions she will have included them in her project post here.

I have a video tutorial available to demonstrate the first few rounds of the project which will explain how to continue to make the square as large as you’d like.

I hope you enjoy this easy and pretty afghan square and remember to check out the other afghan squares that are available in this year’s MooglyCAL2024 (and previous years too!) because there have been some amazing and original granny square patterns shared over the course of her crochet alongs that I’m sure you will love making too.

The full written pattern for my Endless Afghan Square is included for free in my post below.

If you’d like to purchase an ad-free PDF which includes the stitch diagram it is available from my Ravelry Shop.

Notes:

  • Pattern is written with a ch 2 to begin. I prefer to use a double magic ring to begin, as it is more secure. Either is acceptable for this pattern.
  • TIP: If you are using a ch 2 to begin, leave about a 4-inch yarn tail at the beginning. You will use this yarn tail to close the hole that will be there from using this method to start.
  • I start each new color change round with a standing sc. If you prefer a sl st join and a turning chain, feel free to substitute.
  • You will join your new color in the same stitch as you would begin the round, if you had not changed colors.
  • TIP: For a tighter finished corner on the final round, work 1 sc into each corner ch2sp instead of 3 sc in each corner ch2sp. This will change your final round count to 172 (or 43 per side).
