Here’s how it works.

Last week I received MAIL (I love getting parcels!) from Red Heart and I was excited to see it included a sample of their new Red Heart Scrubby Sparkle Yarn, as well as, a ball of Red Heart Scrubby Yarn.

I have crocheted with Red Heart Scrubby Yarn before and it has a very neat texture too it. It is not hard or scratchy – it is soft to the touch – yet it has a bit of grip to it. Making it perfect for washing dishes AND for washing your skin in the bath. It is also quick drying and machine washable in cold water and dryable on a tumble dry low setting.

The new Red Heart Scrubby Sparkle Yarn is also machine washable and dryable 🙂  I still find it soft to the touch but when you squeeze it between your fingers it has a little “crunch” and a little more texture to it than the original Scrubby Yarn.

I have a couple projects to share with you today and 2 more for later this week so pop back to see what you can make with this – and I promise – it is NOT only dishcloths coming!

Last year when I crocheted these projects (free patterns too by the way!):

you asked me to create a simpler dishcloth using the yarn. I tried to do this for you today. Below you will find my Easy Sunflower Scrubby Dishcloth in both the Red Heart Scrubby/Red Heart Scrubby Sparkle AND a second version using the same pattern using the Creme de la Creme Yarns. Have fun! and pop back later this week for the next 2 free patterns!

Special Stitches

These stitches are being used to create clusters – not to decrease the number of stitches in your round. They are worked all in one stitch.

Dc2tog Cluster: *Yarn over the hook, insert hook into the specified space, yarn over the hook and pull up 1 loop (3 loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops. (2 loops on the hook).** Repeat from * to ** one more time in the same stitch. After the repeat this will make a total of 3 loops on the hook. Yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on the hook to complete the dc2tog cluster.

Dc3tog Cluster: *Yarn over the hook, insert hook into the specified stitch, yarn over the hook and pull up 1 loop (3 loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops. (2 loops on the hook).** Repeat from * to ** 2 more times in the same stitch. After the repeat this will make a total of 4 loops on the hook. Yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on the hook to complete the dc3tog cluster.

Notes

  • This project is worked in rounds.
  • After R1 you will only work in each ch1sp around. You will skip the dc stitches.
  • The dc2tog cluster and dc3tog cluster stitches are worked all in one stitch. They are not worked across a few stitches to decrease the stitch count. They are being used as a decorative stitch.

  1. Hi Dolores, I apologize. It should say (Dc3tog cluster, ch 1) in the MR. I’m off to update this. Thank you for letting me know! Rhondda

  2. Hi Rhondda! I am VERY confused over the beginning of the Easy Sunflower Scrubby. It says,
    R1: With Color A: MR: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), Dc2tog cluster, ch 1 *(Dc3tog cluster, ch 1) in the next ch1sp** rep from * to ** 4 more times…..
If I make a magic ring (which I use all the time), then ch 3, etc. … I get confused when it tells me to Dc3tog cluster, ch 1 in the next ch1sp because I haven’t made any ch1sp(s) yet. Is something missing or am I missing something? How can I do (Dc3tog cluster, ch 1) in the next ch1sp when I don’t have one to do it in? I have been crocheting for more years than I can recall, so I really feel silly that I can’t figure this one out.
I sure hope I haven’t confused you with my question.
Looking forward to working with you and your patterns.
    Dolores

  3. How. Many stitches and what kind of stitches goin the magic ring
