Try Tunisian Crochet with 12 Practical Patterns
The book starts with the basics, showing you how to choose the right hooks, yarn, and colors for your projects. You’ll learn some easy stitches, more advanced techniques like shaping, working in the round, and adding color to your projects.
Tunisian Crochet Workshop includes 12 modern patterns to help you practice. You can make cozy scarves, stylish bags, and even home décor projects, like pillows. Each project is designed to help you build your skills while creating something beautiful.
THE ESSENTIALS
The book begins by introducing the tools and equipment you will need for Tunisian crochet. Along with the types of Tunisian crochet hooks and yarns you will also find a handy chart that outlines which size Tunisian crochet hook works best for each yarn weight.
NOTE: This book assumes you know how to crochet. It teaches you how to Tunisian crochet but you will need to have the basic crochet skills and knowledge of how to make basic stitches like single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, chains, slip knots, crab stitches, magic rings and slip stitches. You will find the Techniques section beginning on page 136. It includes written instructions and diagrams to illustrate these stitches.
Choosing colors is discussed on pages 16 and 17 and includes information about the color wheel and what colors look good together. You will learn more about:
- Monochromatic
- Analogous
- Complementary
- Split Complementary
- Triad
A section on gauge, reading patterns and charts, and different ways to hold your yarn and hook are also discussed in this chapter. I recommend going over pages 20-21 to understand the differences between the types of charts included, as well as, how to read both a symbol chart and colorwork chart properly.
THE BASICS
This comprehensive workshop begins by demonstrating how to create the Foundation Row for Tunisian crochet. Step-by-step written instructions and images are provided to guide you through the first row and you are encouraged to practise what you have learned before continuing to the next section of the workshop.
After you have made a few of the practise rows you are given an image of a completed Tunisian crochet swatch and taught the anatomy of the stitches.
It is important to be able to recognize parts of the stitch in order to successfully know where to place your hook to make the basic stitches taught in the Basic Stitches section.
I recommend you take some extra time on pages 28 and 29 if you are new to Tunisian crochet.
TIP: You will find the Glossary and Chart Symbols explained on page 138 and 139.
Beginning on page 30 you are introduced to the Basic Stitches. The stitches included give written instructions in US crochet terminology and a one or two images for each. The Tunisian crochet stitches included are:
- Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS)
- Tunisian Purl Stitch (TPS)
- Tunisian Knit Stitch (TKS)
- Tunisian Reverse Stitch (TRS)
- Tunisian Full Stitch (TFS)
- Tunisian Extended Stitch (TES)
- Tunisian Double Crochet (TDC)
- How to Bind Off

This chapter includes everything you need to know about the different types of colorwork used in this book. You will receive an introduction to Intarsia, Stranded Colorwork, How to Carry (float) Yarn and How to Change Yarn Colors.
Additional, more complex Tunisian Stitch Patterns are provided beginning on page 41. Each of these new stitches requires you to use some of the Basic Stitches you were taught in the last chapter.
