Deluxe Beauty Sleep Mask

Sometimes you just need to have a little rest…

This deluxe beauty sleep mask is perfect for blocking out the light and helping you to find some restful sleep – even during the middle of the day!

I have always been super sensitive to light and if a light is on – I cannot sleep. This mask is my new best friend – especially for those quick ‘cat naps’ I seem to need during the middle of the afternoon after pulling an all-night crochet-a-thon 😉 I hope you find this pattern easy to follow and enjoy making yourself a sleep mask too!

Notes

You will need to make 2 of the masks, either in the same color in different colors. The eye mask is worked in rows. The elastic is hand sewn to the inside of one mask before we seam the two masks together.  I used a slip stitch seam through the outer single crochet rounds to make a decorative edge but you can just as easily hand sew the two together.

Next we need to rejoin our yarn to finish the other side of the eye mask.

Joining with SC Beauty Sleep Mask Oombawka Design

With WS facing, find the middle of the mask. Sk 1 st in and attach your yarn with a sc to the next st in R18.

Rep R19 – R21 and do not finish off and do not turn over.  We now need to edge the mask on the RS of the mask.

Edging

Work 1 sc in each row end and each st around the entire eye mask. Finish off and weave in ends. Be sure to count the number of stitches you worked around your mask (write the number down!) so you will have the same number for the second mask piece. It will make it much easier when you seam the two pieces together if you have the same number of stitches for your edging rounds.

Repeat the entire set of instructions for a second mask and then proceed to the assembly instructions below.

Assembly Instructions:

  • Place one of your masks RS down and attach your 1/4 inch elastic to the mask (approximately 1 inch of the elastic will be sewn to the mask on each side). I used regular sewing needle and thread for this purpose. Now you can see my ‘lovely’ hand sewing skills lol:

attach elastic to mask approximately 1 inch in on each side

  • Place the 2nd mask piece on top of the first mask piece with the RS facing outwards. Line up the stitches as best you can and using a slip stitch, work through the single crochet stitches edging the two masks to seam your mask together. I chose to use 2 colors for my mask and I seamed them together working the slip stitch like this:

Assembly 1 Joining with Sl St

Assembly 2 working slip stitches around outer mask

working around elastic on mask

working around elastic on mask 2

Weave in any loose ends and prepare to have a lovely sleep in even the brightest room!

**Please note, if you are very light sensitive you can add a piece of black felt between the two mask layers to completely eliminate light from penetrating your mask**

Hi Sami, I reworked it to double check that bit and I have corrected it in the pattern instructions. I apologize for the error!

I’m stuck At R13… I did all the work through R12 and have the35 stitches but I don’t understand how 2 sc2tog with 27sc between for total of 29 stitches works from 35 stitches…
