Lacy Crochet Scarf length approximately 66 inches X 16 inches width

Gauge

Approximately 6 rows per 4 inches and 2 sets of (V-st, 3-dc group) per 4 inches

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute, if your gauge is different, the finished size and amount of yarn used for your project will also be different.

Abbreviations

US Terminology used

  • 3-dc group – 3 double crochet stitches worked into the same stitch, or space
  • ch/chs – chain/chains
  • dc – double crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • picot – picot (ch 3, sl st to the third ch) *see special stitches
  • R – row
  • sc – single crochet
  • sk – skip/skipped
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st – stitch
  • V-st – v stitch (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) worked into the same stitch or space *see special stitches
  • * to ** – Work the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain multiple instructions.
  • [ ] – at the end of the row – the total number of stitches
  • ( ) – important notes AND sets of stitches to be worked within one stitch, or space

Special Stitches

V-Stitch (V-st) 

(1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) in the specified stitch, or chain-space.

Picot

Chain 3, sl st to the third ch from the hook to create a picot.

Helpful Tutorials

Notes: 

  • Multiple of 6 + 9 (understanding stitch multiples)
  • When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. You can work under the back loop only if you prefer.
  • The turning chain-1 does not count as a stitch.
  • The turning chain-3 counts as 1 dc.
  • You may customize the length of your Date Night Lacy Crochet Scarf by working the repeat of R2-R3 as many, or as few, times as you wish. 
  • Center of the next 3-dc group – work into the second double crochet in the group of 3 double crochet stitches. Skip the first and last double crochet of the group. 
  • Center of the next V-st – work into the ch3sp in the V-st.

Date Night Lacy Crochet Scarf Pattern

This project is crocheted widthwise, back-and-forth in rows.

Using your 5.5 mm (I) hook (or size required for gauge):

R1: Ch 69, 1 V-st in the 6th ch from the hook (sk 5 chs count as 1 dc and 2 foundation chs). *Sk the next 2 chs, 3 dc in the next ch, sk the next 2 chs, V-st in the next ch**. Work from * to ** across to the last 3 chs. Sk the next 2 chs, 1 dc in the last ch, turn. [2 dc, 10 3-dc groups, 11 V-st]

R2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *3 dc in the center of the next V-st, V-st in the center of the next 3-dc group**. Work from * to ** across to the last V-st. 3 dc in the center of the last V-st, 1 dc in the last st (top of turning ch), turn. [2 dc, 11 3-dc groups, 10 V-st]

R3: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *V-st in center of the next 3-dc group, 3 dc in the center of the next V-st**. Work from * to ** across to the last 3-dc group. V-st in the center of the last 3-dc group, 1 dc in the last st (top of turning ch), turn. [2 dc, 10 3-dc groups, 11 V-st]

R4–R97: Rep R2 and R3 forty-seven times.

R98: Rep R2, do not finish off, proceed to the edging section.

Edging

R1: Ch 1, *(1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 picot, 1 dc, 1 hdc) in the center of the next 3-dc group, 1 sc in the next dc-space, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 picot, 1 dc, 1 hdc) in the center of the next V-st, 1 sc in the next dc-space**. Work from * to ** across to the last 3-dc group. (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 picot, 1 dc, 1 hdc) in the center of the last 3-dc group, sl st in the last st (top of turning ch). Finish off.

[1 sl st, 21 sets of (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 picot, 1 dc, 1 hdc), 20 sc]

Rotate your work to add the edging to the foundation chain end of the project.

Foundation Row Edging

R1: With the RS of your project facing you, join your yarn with a slip stitch to the base of the last dc worked in R1. Ch 1, *(1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 picot, 1 dc, 1 hdc) in the base of the ch with the next V-st, 1 sc in the next ch2sp, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 picot, 1 dc, 1 hdc) in the base of the ch with the next 3-dc group, 1 sc in the next ch2sp**. Work from * to ** across to the base of the ch with the last V-st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 picot, 1 dc, 1 hdc) in the base of the ch with the last V-st, 1 sl st in the third ch from the initial sk 5 chs from R1 of the main pattern. Finish off. [2 sl st, 21 sets of (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 picot, 1 dc, 1 hdc), 20 sc]

Finishing Instructions for the Lacy Crochet Scarf
