I recently had the opportunity to crochet a pair of these divine little booties 🙂 I have to admit it has been on my bucket list for a very, very long time.
A family friend requested a custom order and this is one of the items she wanted to have made. I made a pair in white first, to try the pattern as I have never crocheted the Crocodile Stitch. It did take me a couple of tries to get my head around how the scales were created but once the concept ‘clicked’ I understood and the pattern was very easy to complete.
The hardest part, for me, once I conquered the stitch – was finding buttons. I wanted orange buttons – but ‘flat’ not ‘shiny’ and they were very difficult to find in a 12-mm size.
The project is very fun to crochet – I recommend crocheting them in parts. The soles of each slipper – then the middle post section and then the crocodile stitch upper section. To make sure your sizing and colours match up as closely as possible if you are using variegated yarn.
I recommend this pattern – it is a great way to learn the crocodile stitch and practise post stitches and the size is perfect. Rewarding and not overwhelming.
Note: To reach gauge I had to use a 5.00 mm hook with the fingering yarn.
