Huggable Pet Pig Crochet Pattern

Supplies

• Yarn: Hobbii Toucan. 3.5 oz (100 g) and 131 yds (120 m). 100% Polyester. Super Bulky Weight Yarn [6]. Machine wash at 40°C. Do not iron. Dry flat.
• Colors: 1 skein: Dusty Rose (Shade: 07)
• Crochet Hook: 6 mm (J)
• Finished Project: Pig: 3.5 oz (100 g) and 131 yds (120 m)
• Scissors, Tapestry Needle (yarn needle), two 12 mm black safety eyes; Poly-Fil.

Difficulty Level

• Easy

Finished Sizes

• Pig body width approximately 4.5 inches X 8.5 inches length (not counting the tail) X 5 inches height (not counting the legs or ears).

Gauge

• Approximately 7 sc per 3 inches and 7 rows per 3 inches

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size, and amount of yarn used for your project will also be different.

• BPsc – back post single crochet
• ch(s) – chain(s) 
• FPsc – front post single crochet
• g – grams
• m – meters
• oz – ounces
• rem – remaining
• rep – repeat 
• Rnd – round
• sc – single crochet
• sc2tog – single crochet 2 together
• sk – skip/skipped
• sl st – slip stitch
• st/sts – stitch/stitches
• yds – yards
• * to ** – Repeat the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain multiple instructions.
• [ ] – at the end of the row – the total number of stitches
• ( ) – important notes AND sets of stitches to be worked within one stitch, or space

Notes:

• If you can see spaces between your stitches, use a smaller crochet hook.
• This project is worked in continuous rounds. You will need a stitch marker to mark your place. Place the stitch marker in the first stitch of each round, and move it every round to track your place.
• TIP: if you have trouble sewing the parts to the pig using the yarn the pig was made in, you can use a similar color sewing thread and sewing needle to sew your pig together.

Pet Pig Crochet Pattern

This pattern is crocheted in rounds beginning at the snout. The ears, legs and tail are added after the main pig body is complete.

Pet Pig Body

Using your 6 mm (J) crochet hook (or size required for gauge):

Rnd 1: Ch 2 and work 6 sc in the second ch from the hook. [6 sc]

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. [12 sc]

Rnd 3: 2 sc in the first st, 1 sc in the next st. *2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st tightly to the first st to join. Ch 1. [18 sc]

Rnd 4: 1 BPsc in each st around. [18 BPsc]

Rnd 5: 1 FPsc in each st around. [18 FPsc]

Rnd 6: 2 sc in the first st, 1 sc in each of the next 8 sts. 2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in each of the next 8 sts. [20 sc]

Rnd 7: 2 sc in the first st, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts. *2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts**. Work from * to ** around. [24 sc]

Rnd 8: 2 sc in the first st, 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts. *2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts**. Work from * to ** around. [28 sc]

Rnd 9: 1 sc in each of  the first 2 sts. *2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts**. Work from * to ** around. [35 sc]

Rnd 10-Rnd 21: 1 sc in each st around. [35 sc]

• Place eyes between the 8th and 9th rounds with 9 stitches between. Stuff the snout and head with Polyfil. Do not overstuff but stuff firmly.

Rnd 22: Sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts. *Sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts**. Work from * to ** around. [28 sc]

• Add more Polyfil to the pig.

Rnd 23: Sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts. *Sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts**. Work from * to ** around. [21 sc]

Rnd 24: Sc2tog, 1 sc in the next st. *Sc2tog, 1 sc in the next st**. Work from * to ** around. [14 sc]

• Add more Polyfil to the pig. Do not overstuff but make sure it is stuffed firmly.

Rnd 25: Sc2tog around. [7 sc]

Finish off leaving a 6 inch tail of yarn. Thread the yarn end on a yarn needle and weave it under the bl of each st in Rnd 25, pull to tighten and sew closed, weave in the end, leaving the tail of yarn inside the pig.

Proceed to finishing instructions.

Pet Pig Legs

Make 4

Using your 7 mm crochet hook (or size required for gauge):

Rnd 1: Ch 2 and work 4 sc in the second ch from the hook. [4 sc]

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. [8 sc]

Rnd 3: 2 sc in the first st, 1 sc in the next st. *2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in the next st**. Work from * to ** around. [12 sc]

Rnd 4: 1 FPsc in each st around. [12 FPsc]

Rnd 5-Rnd 6: 1 sc in each st around. [12 sc]

Finish off leaving a 8-inch tail of yarn to use for assembly.

Proceed to finishing instructions.

Pet Pig Ears

Make 2

Using your 7 mm crochet hook (or size required for gauge):

Rnd 1: Ch 2 and work 4 sc in the second ch from the hook. [4 sc]

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. [8 sc]

Rnd 3: 2 sc in the first st, 1 sc in the next st. *2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in the next st**. Work from * to ** around. [12 sc]

Rnd 4: 1 sc in each st around. [12 sc]

Finish off leaving an 8-inch tail of yarn to use for assembly. The finished ear should look like a triangle when flattened with Rnd 1 at the top and Rnd 4 at the bottom. 

Proceed to finishing instructions.

Pet Pig Tail

Using your 7 mm crochet hook (or size required for gauge):

R1: Ch 10, sk the first 2 chs and sl st in the next ch. 2 sc in each rem ch across. [14 sc, 1 sl st]

Finish off leaving a 6-inch tail of yarn to use for assembly.

Proceed to finishing instructions.

Finishing Instructions:

• Flatten the ears into a triangle shape. Using sewing pins place the pig’s ears on its head between to cover Rnd 11 (3 rounds after the eyes) with 8 stitches between them and sew them to the pig’s head. Weave the unused tail of yarn inside the pig.
• Sew the pig’s tail to its body on Rnd 24. Use the pigs ears to find the center of the pig to make the tail line up to the center.
• Stuff the pigs legs firmly with PolyFil. 
• Front Legs: Pin the legs to the pig’s body on the underside of the pig. The front legs are pinned on Rnd 11 at the front. There are 4 stitches between the edge of each ear and the outside front edge of each front leg. Each leg covers 4 stitches in Rnd 11, and leaves 4 stitches between the legs. The back of the pigs legs are sewn over 4 stitches in Rnd 13. Sew the legs in place and weave in unused ends inside the pig’s body.
• Back Legs: Pin the legs to the pig’s body on the underside of the pig. The back legs are pinned beginning on Rnd 18, approximately 4 rounds after the back edge of the front legs. Each leg covers 4 stitches in Rnd 18, and leaves 4 stitches between the legs. The back of the pigs back legs are sewn over 4 stitches in Rnd 20. Sew the legs in place and weave in unused ends inside the pig’s body.
