Crochet Yarn Talk –  Red Heart Super Saver Stripes Yarn Review

Last week I received a package from Red Heart filled with Yummy Yarn! Super Saver now has 10 New Stripes available! Stripes is a self-striping yarn – which means you get beautiful bright stripes without all those nasty yarn ends to sew in! Lots of color with less work. The color I received is called Retro Stripe and it is so vibrant and fun to crochet with. As you can see in the image above it creates a beautiful striped effect when you crochet. The shawl in the above image is currently blocking and you will be seeing a brand new free pattern very soon, right here on the blog! It will work perfectly with any of the lovely Stripes in the Super Saver collection or any other Super Saver yarn!

The 10 new Stripes in the Super Saver line are: Polo Stripe, Preppy Stripe, Fruity Stripe, Favorite Stripe, Flamenco Stripe, Cool Stripe, Parrot Stripe, Latte Stripe, Bright Stripe and Retro Stripe. If you want to see what the rest of the Joy Creators are working up search using this hashtag online: #JoyCreators

Here are the 10 Super Saver Stripes color options – I think Favorite Stripe might be my ‘favorite stripe’ but I also love Parrot Stripe and Flamenco Stripe! Which one is your favorite?Check out these Stripes! 958635 - Stripes - Super Saver Yarn - New from Red Heart

The New Super Saver Stripes yarn is a 100% Acrylic [4] Medium Weight yarn. It is available in 5 oz / 141 g ; 236 yds / 215 m balls and does have specific dye lots. So if you are working on a large project be sure to buy enough yarn in your dye lot to finish the project. For the shawl pattern I will be releasing in the next few days you will need 3 balls (this will leave you just enough left over to also make one of my Double Crossed Hats in size Child or smaller). This yarn is Machine Washable and Dryable but because it is acrylic DO NOT use an iron.  This product is proudly Made in the USA.

I loved working with the Retro Stripe yarn. The bright colors and lovely sheen of the yarn made working a repetitive stitch pattern enjoyable for me. I normally get bored (shh! my little secret) crocheting the same stitch over and over – which is why you do not see me making a lot of blankets or large projects! The yarn is durable too – which is something I’ve always loved about Super Saver – you can crochet with this yarn and your finished project can last for years. I also find projects worked in Super Saver Yarns soften-up in the wash quite nicely and the stitches still look great! You don’t lose the stitch definition you worked so hard to achieve and your project doesn’t get the ‘fluffies’.

If you would like to purchase some of these beautiful Stripes for yourself, they are available on the Red Heart website: Super Saver Yarn – Stripes

  1. Hi,

I trying to find some yarn for my Mom. All I really know is it’s Redheart brand. I do have a picture of the yard but I’m not sure who I could send it to for help. Would any of you have a suggestion for where I could start?

    Thanks,

    Terry

  2. Hi Nora, I’m not a great person to ask about planned pooling. Marly Bird though has done a few tutorials on it I think? The only time I’ve had yarn ‘pool’ was with my book cover and it was a very happy accident! https://youtu.be/sKSCPl7w6sA

  3. Thank you! I don’t have any Stripes in my stash because as pretty as it looks in a skein (beautiful), I always feel like I need to know what I’m going to use it for when I buy it so I can be sure to buy enough.

  4. Hi Ttk 🙂 It does have those other colors in it too I think. If you visit Red Heart and click on the yarn option on the right side where it shows you all 149 options and then click on the Favorite Stripe one it will open a full swatch image which includes yellow and what looks like 2 shades of greens at the end of the color sequence. I didn’t realize it until I visited their site and went to order and the ball popped up on the screen and showed me the other colors included in it. The small snippet only shows the top half of the color stripes included.

  5. I just bought the favorite stripe…it has green, teal, yellow in it also ? It makes me wonder if the photos or swatches of the yarn is right ?

  6. Awesome I love all your patterns you are so kind enough to share with everybody!

  7. I love this style of yarn so I don’t’ have to try and change colors in mid crocheting, and the colors complement each other so takes the guess work out of trying to find matching or complementing colors to go with it

  8. Hi Lisa, It depends on the size of your project but for the 2 patterns I used this yarn for, it striped up pretty easily without any cutting and retying for the stripes. I wrote 2 free patterns using it and I just received a bit more in a different color that I am trying to make something new with – the newer one is the black and bright yarn color so the changes are a little bit more abrupt (noticeable) because of the contrast between the colors in the stripe (if you know what I mean?). You can check out the first 2 projects I made here: https://oombawkadesigncrochet.com/tropical-breeze-wrap-a-free-crochet-pattern/ and here; https://oombawkadesigncrochet.com/double-crossed-hat/ Hope this helps! Rhondda
