After completing the first project included in the Darn Good Yarn of the Month Box, I asked permission to share an additional pattern with my readers for a smaller Air Plant Holder. You can see my review post here: Darn Good Yarn of the Month Box.  I had some of their yarn left over and wanted to make matching Air Plant holders for my very small Air Plants. You can get my free pattern here for the Itsy Bitsy Tiered Air Plant Holders.

CROCHET YARN TALK - Darn Good Yarn

I realized I never mentioned in my review post why the products available from Darn Good Yarn are so special and unique. Their products are unique and range from clothing and accessories, to home goods, Artisan goods, gifts for crafters of all types and of course their beautiful yarn, yarn bowls and monthly subscription boxes. For example, I just purchased a 3-pack of plus size ‘wrap around’ style ankle length cotton skirts for myself a few weeks ago. These ones here: 100% Cotton Wrap Around Skirts 3-Pack in the color Soho Bohemian.

However I think it is important to point out that their uniqueness goes beyond what they sell.

Crochet Yarn Talk – Darn Good Yarn Is More Than Just darn good yarn

The Mission of Darn Good Yarn is to:

“provide phenomenal quality fibers to enthusiasts, meanwhile helping the women of India and Nepal become autonomous and self-reliant.”

How do they do this? Watch this short video from Nicole Snow, Founder and CEO of Darn Good Yarn:

By choosing to re-purpose manufactured fiber waste which would otherwise be sent to landfills and selecting 300 women living in Nepal and India to craft their products, Darn Good Yarn helps to make a difference in both the lives of people and the health of our planet.

“Yarn can be a story and all of our yarns are, essentially, mirrors of the amazing women who create them. When you invest in Darn Good Yarn for your projects, you are not only using yarn that is helping a family eat, have proper medical care, and send their children to school…but you are making a final piece that carries a history within each stitch that in turn enhances the beauty of the overall story. We invite you to join the change, spread the joy, and discover the story inside of you.”

Darn Good Yarn is a truly unique and different company. When we choose to buy and craft with their products, we become part of this cycle and we help to make a difference too.
