Chic Sheep Yarn by Marly Bird is a medium weight [4] yarn and it is 100% merino wool. Each ball contains 3.5 oz / 100 g and 186 yds / 170 m. The yarn is machine wash (cold and gentle cycle) and it is recommended you dry your finished projects flat. Red Heart suggests Chic Sheep Yarn by crocheted with a 5 mm (H) hook.

I should mention that I have always had a sensitivity to wool and wool-blends. I’m not certain if it is they wool itself, or the dander that sometimes remains on the wool that causes my issues but whatever the case I had no adverse reaction to the Chic Sheep Yarn. It still felt warm to the touch to me when I was crocheting with it but I did not break out in a rash and my skin did not crack or turn red. Not only was I able to crochet with the wool to make this month’s #SCARFOFTHEMONTHCLUB2017 free pattern, I have also been able to wear the scarf against the skin of my neck without any problems whatsoever. I am currently working on a hat to go with the scarf – and I plan to keep and wear it with the scarf. Get the free Coffee With Cream Infinity Scarf pattern >HERE<

I cannot guarantee you will have the same experience with the wool if you have a sensitivity – as everyone is different in how they respond to different allergens – but for me it was a very pleasant surprise. I love the bright and bold range of colors and the softness of the Chic Sheep Yarn so I am excited to be able to use it for projects for myself and others who ask.

Chic Sheep Yarn by Marly Bird was a joy to work with. I didn’t find any stray pieces of straw, or other miscellaneous materials mixed in with the plys. There were no knots, uneven plys or tied sections in the yarn. The ball contained one continuous piece of yarn. It was perfectly plied and smooth and it felt clean (not gritty) and had very little odor to it.

  1. I was fortunate enough to find a few skeins of this yarn at clearance last year with 75% off! What a bargain. This is (sadly) the most expensive yarn I have and I treasure it. I have yet to find the perfect project of what I want to use the yarn for, but it is a dream to hold and squish it. I can definitely tell it is not a standard yarn.

  11. Until I read the posts about that familiar sensitivity to wool NOT being an issue with the new Red Heart Chic Sheep wool yarn, I was gazing wistfully at the lovely colors I would not be able to work with! But what’s this? No sensitivity issues?? A new rainbow of colors has opened to my not so itchy eyes! Thank you Rhondda, for willfully being a guinea pig for us sensitive types, and for bringing a more natural fibered color, into my life 💕 🌈

  12. I love that this yarn is m wool and doesn’t seem to affect your sensitivity. I hope it becomes available here in the UK so that can make some lovely wooly items for me and my grandkids instead of using acrylic or cotton all the time.
