Yarn and Hook Used
This post will show the poncho using Red Heart Soft and a 6.0 mm (J) hook. Colours used are as follows:
Row 1-5: Berry
Row 6-9: Off White
Row 10-15: Grape
Row 16-23: Off White
Row 24-29: Teal
Option 1: Worsted Weight (Red Heart Soft) – 6.0 mm (J). Instructions are for Child Size 6.
Option 2: DK Weight (Knit Picks Gloss) – 5.0 mm (H). Instructions are for Child Size 4.
Abbreviations
US Terminology used
ch – chain
r – row
sc – single crochet
sc3tog – single crochet 3 stitches together
sc3tog CL – single crochet 3 stitches together cluster stitch (see special stitches)
sl st – slip stitch
st/sts – stitch/stitches
* – Repeat the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain of multiple instructions.
() – Repeat the instructions between the parentheses the number of times indicated.
(Option 1 Stitch Count, Option 2 Stitch Count) – end of row stitch counts
Special Stitches:
Single Crochet 3 Stitches Together Cluster Stitch (sc3tog CL): This stitch begins in the same stitch as the last stitch worked. Insert your hook into the same st as the last st worked, pull up 1 loop, insert your hook into the next st and pull up 1 loop, insert your hook into the next st and pull up 1 loop, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on your hook.

How to Change Colours on the Last Yarn Over of a Stitch
Note: The total number of stitches at the end of each row does include chain stitches for this section of the pattern. EXCEPT for the final ch 1 at the end of the row.
R24: 1 sc in the first st; sc3tog CL (see special stitches above), *ch 1, sc3tog CL** repeat from * to ** across; sc in same st as last sc3tog CL, ch 1, turn (33) (43)
Note: please remember the final stitch in the repeat is the sc3tog CL – so the last 2 stitches of this row are the sc3tog CL and then 1 sc (there is no slip stitch in between).
R25: 1 sc in first sc, sc3tog CL, *ch 1, sc3tog CL** repeat from * to **, across, 1 sc in the same st as last sc3tog CL, ch 1, turn (33) (43)
R26: 1 sc in first sc, sc3tog CL, *ch 1, sc3tog CL** repeat from * to **, across, 1 sc in the same st as last sc3tog CL, ch 1, turn (33) (43)
