Here’s how it works.
My Crochet Fantasy Blanket is a quick, warm and cozy lapghan that is super easy to make. I made this project as part of the #HobbiiNoShadesofGrey challenge. Hobbii Yarn invited me to participate in this challenge and provided the yarn for this project.
The challenge was to find and use a yarn that was bright and colorful to counter the gloomy, darkness of the winter months. We were encouraged to find a yarn that did not include any dark colors like grey, or dark blue, or black; only bright and happy colors.
I personally gravitate toward neutral palettes or grey/black and white for items that I wear, or make for my home. I wasn’t sure how I would like my finished project that avoided all of my favorite color options but I’m happy to report – I love my Fantasy Blanket and the yarn I chose to make it with.
I narrowed my yarn choices down to Kaleidoscope (Fantasy Jumbo yarn) and Sunset (Hobbii Glitter Delight Bulky yarn). I loved the Sunset but wanted to try more color for this project so I chose Kaleidoscope and I love how the finished project turned out. It really is a cheerful looking blanket! Plus it is so cozy to snuggle under during the cold, dark winter days.
I have written the pattern in an Adult Lapghan Size and included directions to make the blanket in 8 additional sizes. The blanket pattern features the Griddle Stitch (also known as the Lemon Peel Stitch).

The Yarn
- Hobbii Fantasy Jumbo
- Super Bulky Weight Yarn [6]
- 7 oz (200 g) and 262 yds (240 m)
- 100% Acrylic Yarn
- Machine wash 30°C (86°F). Do not iron. Low tumble dry or dry flat.
- Recommended crochet hook size 8 mm (L)
- The yarn is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified (no. 1976-294). Find more information about the certification at https://www.oeko-tex.com/en/
This yarn is beautiful to work with, soft and airy and the yarn colors are mixed in with each other making the color transitions flow in a very pleasing way! The finished blanket is something you will enjoy snuggling up under for it’s warmth. The weight of the yarn is Super Bulky but the blanket doesn’t feel heavy.
You can see all the pretty color variations available here. There are currently 15 options to choose from.

Helpful Tutorials
Notes:
- Stitch multiple of 2 + 1, plus 1 for the turning chain
- Reversible
- Ch 1 to turn does not count as a stitch and we do not work into it.
- When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. You can work under the back loop only if you prefer.
- The pattern is written to make a 50 inches X 42 inches lapghan. To make another size use the information provided in the Finished Sizes Section above.
- For the other sizes, substitute the number of chain stitches provided in the chart and follow the pattern as written until R12.
- If you’d like to make your blanket using the Griddle Stitch without adding the 4 rows using the Double Crochet 2 Together Stitches you can. Simply work your pattern repeat of R2 and R3 for the entire project instead, adding 8 extra rows to replace the 4 rows of dc2tog stitches. This can be done for any of the sizes.
