This Little Crown is an adorable prop that’s perfect for playing dress up, for use in professional photographs, or as part of a costume… maybe even on Halloween. The pattern is Very Easy, requires very little yarn, includes 2 styles (King & Queen) and works up super quickly.

Crochet Your Little One a Crown with this Fast and Easy Pattern – 5 Sizes Available!

Supplies

  • Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice. 3.53 oz (100 g), 170 yds (155 m). 100% Acrylic. Medium Worsted Weight Yarn [4]. Machine wash and dry. Tumble dry. Do not bleach. Dry-Cleanable.
  • Crochet Hooks: 5 mm (H) for smaller sizes, 5.5 mm (I) for child size
  • Finished Yardage: less than 100 yds 
  • Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker

Other yarns that work well: Loops & Threads Impeccable, or any other sturdy Worsted Weight Yarn will work.

Difficulty Level

  • Easy

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this project, just remember when you substitute the finished size of your project may also be different.

Finished Sizes

  • 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, toddler, child

Gauge

  • Approximately 7 sts in 2 inches 

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size, and amount of yarn used for your project will also be different.

Abbreviations

US Terminology used

  • ch – chain
  • dc – double crochet
  • g – grams
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • m – meters
  • oz – ounces
  • picot – picot (*see special stitches)
  • Rnd – round
  • sc – single crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st(s) – stitch/stitches
  • yds – yards
  • [ ] – at the end of the row – the total number of stitches; within the row – a set of instructions to be repeated the given number of times.
  • ( ) – important notes AND sets of stitches

Special Stitches

Picot 

  • Ch 3, sl st to the third ch from the hook

Notes:

KING Crown vs QUEEN Crown
  • If you would like to increase the height of the crown, feel free to add an additional round or two of SC.
  • Add buttons, ribbons, beads, or any other embellishments to your crown to make it look fancy!
  • For rounded peaks, work 8 DC in place of the ‘king’ or ‘queen’ peak instructions.
  • Work your crown in a funky variegated yarn, or trim the bottom in fun fur to make it unique!

Little Crown Pattern

This project is worked in joined rounds.

0-3 months (14-15” head circumference)

Using your 5 mm (H) crochet hook:

Rnd 1: Ch 42, without twisting the chain, sl st to the first ch to form a circle. Ch 1, 1 sc in each ch around. Sl st to the first st to join. [42 sc]

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st around. Sl st to the first st to join. [42 sc]

Rnd 3: Ch 1, *1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, ch 1, sk the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [28 sc, 14 ch1sp]

Reminder: Sk all single crochet stitches (sc) in Rnd 4.  

KING Rnd 4: Ch 1, *(3 dc, picot, 3 dc) in the next ch1sp, sl st to the next ch1sp**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [84 dc, 14 picot] 

QUEEN Rnd 4: Ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next ch1sp, sl st to the next ch1sp**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [84 dc, 14 ch2sp] 

*Either style will have 7 peaks.

Proceed to finishing instructions.

3-6 months (15-17” head circumference)

Using your 5 mm (H) crochet hook:

Rnd 1: Ch 48, without twisting the chain, sl st to the first ch to form a circle. Ch 1, 1 sc in each ch around. Sl st to the first st to join. [48 sc]

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st around. Sl st to the first st to join. [48 sc]

Rnd 3: Ch 1, *1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, ch 1, sk the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [32 sc, 16 ch1sp]

Reminder: Sk all single crochet stitches (sc) in Rnd 4.  

KING Rnd 4: Ch 1, *(3 dc, picot, 3 dc) in the next ch1sp, sl st to the next ch1sp**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [96 dc, 16 picot] 

QUEEN Rnd 4: Ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next ch1sp, sl st to the next ch1sp**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [96 dc, 16 ch2sp] 

*Either style will have 8 peaks.

Proceed to finishing instructions.

6-12 months (17-18” head circumference)

Using your 5 mm (H) crochet hook:

Rnd 1: Ch 54, without twisting the chain, sl st to the first ch to form a circle. Ch 1, 1 sc in each ch around. Sl st to the first st to join. [54 sc]

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in each st around. Sl st to the first st to join. [54 hdc]

Rnd 3: Ch 1, *1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, ch 1, sk the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [36 hdc, 18 ch1sp]

Reminder: Sk all single crochet stitches (sc) in Rnd 4.  

KING Rnd 4: Ch 1, *(3 dc, picot, 3 dc) in the next ch1sp, sl st to the next ch1sp**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [108 dc, 18 picot] 

QUEEN Rnd 4: Ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next ch1sp, sl st to the next ch1sp**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [108 dc, 18 ch2sp] 

*Either style will have 9 peaks.

Toddler Size (18-20” head circumference)

Using your 5 mm (H) crochet hook:

Rnd 1: Ch 60, without twisting the chain, sl st to the first ch to form a circle. Ch 1, 1 sc in each ch around. Sl st to the first st to join. [60 sc]

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in each st around. Sl st to the first st to join. [60 hdc]

Rnd 3: Ch 2, *1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, ch 1, sk the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [40 dc, 20 ch1sp]

Reminder: Sk all single crochet stitches (sc) in Rnd 4.  

KING Rnd 4: Ch 1, *(3 dc, picot, 3 dc) in the next ch1sp, sl st to the next ch1sp**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [120 dc, 20 picot] 

QUEEN Rnd 4: Ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next ch1sp, sl st to the next ch1sp**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [120 dc, 20 ch2sp]

Child Size (20-21” head circumference)

Using your 5.5 mm (I) crochet hook:

Rnd 1: Ch 60, without twisting the chain, sl st to the first ch to form a circle. Ch 1, 1 sc in each ch around. Sl st to the first st to join. [60 sc]

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in each st around. Sl st to the first st to join. [60 hdc]

Rnd 3: Ch 2, *1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, ch 1, sk the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [40 dc, 20 ch1sp]

Reminder: Sk all single crochet stitches (sc) in Rnd 4.  

KING Rnd 4: Ch 1, *(3 dc, picot, 3 dc) in the next ch1sp, sl st to the next ch1sp**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [120 dc, 20 picot] 

QUEEN Rnd 4: Ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next ch1sp, sl st to the next ch1sp**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [120 dc, 20 ch2sp]
