Do you want to make an heirloom quality afghan? Look no further than this Romantic Rhapsody Afghan and Pillow Set.
This crochet pattern is perfect for both the novice and the experienced crocheter. This pattern uses simple crochet stitches, a single color of Worsted Weight Yarn [4] and a 5.5 mm (I) crochet hook to create a giftworthy 44″ x 62 1/2″ afghan and a 12″ square pillow set.
You only need to know some beginner crochet stitches and how to crochet single crochet (sc) in the back loops and double crochet (dc) in the front loops of stitches two rows below to create this intricate design. Plus, because this pattern is written in US Crochet Terms and it also includes optional graphs, you can pick the instructions that best suit your needs.

Romantic Rhapsody Afghan & Pillow Pattern Set
This month, Carol Hegar from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs has given me a copy of her Romantic Rhapsody & Pillow Pattern Set to review and a second copy to giveaway to one of my readers! This electronic booklet includes 7 pages of written instructions with optional charts.
This textured afghan and pillow is crocheted in a single color of Worsted Weight Yarn [4] and features upright hearts in a diagonal quilt block style design.
The entire pattern uses single crochet stitches (sc) worked in the back loop of a stitch and double crochet stitches (dc) worked in a remaining front loop of a stitch from 2 rows before. Diagrams and an explanation about how the pattern is worked are included on page 2 of the electronic booklet.
The pattern is worked on the RS (right side) only, and you will fasten-off the strand of yarn you are working with at the end of every row. The project is designed to allow you to create a fringe on the left and right side edges of the blanket. BONUS: You will not have any ends to sew in!
By watching Carol’s helpful step-by-step video tutorial you will be able to master the dropped double crochet technique easily.
This 7-page ePattern is written in U.S. Crochet Terms and uses only simple crochet stitches. Instructions on how to read the pattern and how to recognize the loops of the stitches are included on page 2.
Row by row written instructions for the afghan are included on pages 3 and 4, with the optional afghan graph on page 5.
The written instructions for the pillow and optional pillow graph are located on pages 6 and 7.
You can work the pattern from either the written instructions or the graphs.
The border on two sides of the blanket is created by overhand knots that are tied which means you have no ends to sew in! When making the pillow the ends are hidden inside the completed pillow and a pretty ruffled edging is added.

It was hard to choose a favorite overall, as I liked MANY of the patterns! But I chose: Choo Choo Train Afghan #311.
Captive Heart, #486. This is my favourite
I like the Sweetheart pattern but it was hard to choose just one. They’re all beautiful.
I love so many of Shady Lane’s patterns. Today I’m loving her Easy Crochet Optical Illusion Afghans & Pillows most. The blankets can be made larger so not just for baby blankets.
