Some of the patterns were designed using DK Weight Yarn and some were designed using Worsted Weight Yarn. You will also need 3.25 mm, 3.5 mm and 4.0 mm crochet hooks, safety eyes/noses, felt and stuffing. You can opt to make felt eyes instead of using the safety eyes and instructions have been included on page 75.
The crochet stitches you need to make your farm animals are outlined with diagrams from pages 64 to 70, embroidery stitches have also been included from pages 71 to 72 and finishing techniques are provided on pages 72-74.
The templates you need to make properly scaled felt embellishments for your animals are available on page 75; alternately they can be downloaded directly from Martingale (the link is provided in the book) and printed.
Each pattern is presented in written format using U.S. Crochet Terms. The instructions are clear and provided in sections (i.e. legs, tail, horns, nostrils, etc.) which you will crochet and then assemble to make your animal(s). Diagrams have also been included to help make the assembly and placement of the pieces easier and more accurate.
The skill level for most of the designs is Easy – you will need to work in rounds and use basic crochet stitches to be able to complete these projects.

I love how all of the animals are in proportion to one another and the details Megan Kreiner was able to bring to life in her designs. You are sure to find a few favorites in this collection!
My favorite design in the book is the goat! Darla (she is 6 years old) loves the horses and Andrew (he is 4 years old) loves the donkey.
Although this book is currently out of print you can still get really good quality used copies of Crochet a Farm online from places like Amazon and Thrift Books.
