Special Stitches
Special single crochet two together (Special sc2tog)
We use this stitch to decrease 1 sc and 1 dc all at once.
Insert hook under both loops of the next dc, skip the next st (which is a sc), insert hook under both loops of the next dc, yarn over and pull the loop through both sc sts. Yarn over and pull through the remaining 2 loops on your hook.

- The turning ch 1 does not count as a stitch and we do not work into it.
- The baby sizes have a narrower hat band (1 inch width). Sizes Toddler (12-24 months) and up have a 2 inch hat band.
- These hats will stretch approximately 3 inches (easily).
- To increase the hat height by 1 inch, work approximately 3 more rows in a repeat section.
- To decrease the hat height by 1 inch, work approximately 3 less rows in a repeat section.

Using your 4 mm (G) crochet hook (or size required for gauge) and leaving a 6 inch tail of yarn:
R1: Ch 10, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each rem ch across, ch 1, turn. [9 sc]
R2-R72: 1 sc in the bl of each of the next 8 sts, 1 sc in the last st, ch 1, turn. [9sc]
Do not finish off, proceed to the Hat Body.
Hat Body
The hat body is worked in joined rounds, directly into the edges of the hat band.
Using your 5 mm (H) crochet hook (or size required for gauge):
Rotate the hat band to work across the row ends.
Rnd 1: (RS): 1 sc in the first row end, 1 dc in the next row end. (1 sc in the next row end, 1 dc in the next row end) across. Sl st to join, Ch 1, turn. [36 sc, 36 dc]
Repeat Rounds
Rnd 2-Rnd 14: *1 sc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to join. Ch 1, turn. [36 sc, 36 dc]
Hat Shaping
Rnd 15: *Special sc2tog, 1 dc in the next st. (1 sc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st) twice**. Work from * to ** 9 times. Sl st to join. Ch 1, turn. [27 sc, 27 dc]
Rnd 16-Rnd 17: *1 sc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to join. Ch 1, turn. [27 sc, 27 dc]
Rnd 18: *Special sc2tog, 1 dc in the next st. 1 sc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st**. Work from * to ** 9 times. Sl st to join. Ch 1, turn. [18 sc, 18 dc]
Rnd 19-Rnd 20: *1 sc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to join. Ch 1, turn. [18 sc, 18 dc]
Rnd 21: *Special sc2tog, 1 dc in the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to join. Ch 1, do not turn. [9 sc, 9 dc]

Finishing Instructions:
- Finish off. Close the top of the hat by weaving your yarn end through the front loops of the last round of stitches and cinching the top closed. See this video tutorial for help.
- Using the yarn tail you left at the beginning of the hat band, whipstitch the 2 edges of the first row and last row of the hat band together.
- Weave in ends.
