Here’s how it works.
Make this beautifully simple Continuance Afghan Square with Medium Weight Yarn and a 5.5 mm crochet hook. The beautiful texture created by the back post double crochet stitches makes this granny square eye catching in ombre, variegated or even single color yarns. Continue the project repeats for as large as you’d like to make it a square blanket, or follow the instructions as written to make a 12 x 12 inch square block perfect for your afghans and pillow projects.

Notes:
- Pattern is written with a ch-2 to begin. I prefer to use a double magic ring to begin, as it is more secure. Either is acceptable for this pattern.
- TIP: If you are using a ch-2 to begin, leave about a 4-inch yarn tail at the beginning. You will use this yarn tail to close the hole that will be there from using this method to start.
- An initial ch-3 counts as 1 dc.
- I wrote this pattern using a single color.
- For my sample project using color changes for each round, I finished off at the end of the round after my first sl st to join. I did not slip stitch across to the ch2sp. I joined using a standing double crochet stitch instead of beginning with a ch 3 for the next round. If you prefer a sl st join and a turning chain 3, feel free to substitute.
- If you do change colors, you will join your new color in the same stitch as you would begin the round, if you had not changed colors.
