Colorful Stripes Crochet Stitch Tutorial

This week is a very straightforward stitch and I think it is quite pretty 🙂 The colorful stripes crochet tutorial is included in this post, along with the free pattern. The fabric is fairly dense as you are crocheting with single crochet stitches. If you wish to make this without using a foundation single crochet you can alternately begin with a stitch pattern multiple of 5 and then ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st across – and begin at R2 of the pattern below.

Supplies

Hook: 5.0 mm H
Yarn: Red Heart with Love in 2 Colours

Finished Dimensions: 8 x 8 inch square

Stitch Pattern Multiple: Fsc a multiple of 5 stitches minus 1.

Helpful Tutorials:

fsc – foundation single crochet

changing colours on the last yarn over

These are the 3 sts you will need to find beneath the single crochet stitch starting in R4:

Hook Placement for cluster stitch @OombawkaDesign

Abbreviations: R – row, fsc – foundation single crochet, ch – chain, sc – single crochet, st – stitch, sts – stitches, (24) – is the stitch count total for the row

R1: Colour A: fsc 24, ch 1, turn (24)

Row 1-3 @OombawkaDesign

R2: 1 sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn (24)

R3: 1 sc in each sc across changing to Colour B in the last yarn over of the last sc, ch 1, turn (24)

R4: 1 sc in each of the first 4 sc, *insert your hook into the sc in the row below the last sc worked and in each of the next 2 sc and pull up 1 loop in each of these 3 sts (you now have 4 loops on your hook), insert your hook into the next sc of the current row, yarn over and draw the yarn through the sc and 3 of the loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through the remaining 2 loops on your hook, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc; repeat * to the end, ch 1, turn (24)

Keep your yarn on the hook. Weave in the yarn at the row ends before continuing to the edging.

Edging
R1: Work 3 sc in each corner and work 25 sc evenly spaced along each edge.
R2: Work 1 sc in the 1st corner st, 2 sc in the next corner st, 1 sc in the next corner st, 1 hdc in each of the sc along the side edge, work 1 sc in the 1st corner st, 2 sc in the next corner st, 1 sc in
the next corner st, 1 sc in each of the sc along the bottom edge.

Work 1 sc in the 1st corner st, 2 sc in the next corner st, 1 sc in the next corner st, 1 hdc in each of the sc along the side edge, work 1 sc in the 1st corner st, 2 sc in the next corner st, 1 sc in the
next corner st, 1 sc in each of the sc along the top edge. Finish off and weave in ends.
