Welcome Crocheters! Today it’s my turn to share a brand new free pattern with you, as part of the Autumn Accessories Make Along. My Cody Hat pattern is designed using King Cole Merino Blend DK Yarn [3] and a 5 mm (H) hook.

King Cole yarn is available from your local yarn shop, or online at the links in my post below.

I’ve made this pattern available in sizes baby to adult, for free in my post below.

About the Yarn

King Cole Merino Blend DK

  • 100% Pure, New Superwash Wool
  • DK Weight Yarn [3]
  • 49 Shades
  • 1.76 oz (50 g) and 115 yds (104 m)

This 100% Merino Blend Yarn is available in 49 different colors. It is a superwash wool, which means you can wash your finished projects in the washing machine, in warm water and on a gentle cycle.

The yarn works up nicely and it did not fluff or pill as I worked with it. My finished stitches retained their stitch definition and shape perfectly.

As many of you know, I have in the past mentioned I have a sensitivity to most wools so I was a bit apprehensive to try this one. I am happy to report that my hands did not suffer any redness, dryness or itchiness. They did feel warm while I was working with the yarn, but not unpleasantly so. Overall, I am very pleased with the Merino Blend DK Yarn and I think it made for a lovely finished hat.

I would happily use this yarn again on a future design. I love that there are so many pretty colors available!

Notes

  • Stitch multiple: 2 (Understanding Stitch Multiples)
  • Crochet stitch pattern : Crossed Double Crochet Variation
  • The initial ch-3 does not count as a stitch.
  • The initial ch-2 does not count as a stitch.
  • The initial ch-1 does not count as a stitch.
  • The sl st does not count as a stitch.
  • Make your sl st tightly.
  • You may customize the hat height by working the repeat as many, or as few, times as you wish. Every 2 rounds you add with the stitch pattern, will add approximately 0.75 inch of height to the hat.
  • If you would like to add a little bit more height to the hat, work an additional round (or two) of sc in the back loop only.
  • I use an invisible join to finish off my final round of stitches, you may substitute a sl st to join if you prefer.
