Cheyenne Afghan and Pillow Pattern Set

This month, Carol Hegar from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs has given me a copy of her Cheyenne Afghan & Pillow Pattern Set to review and a second copy to giveaway to one of my readers! This electronic booklet includes 8 pages of easy to follow written instructions with optional charts.

Don’t let the optical illusion design intimidate you — the dropped double crochet method used in this crochet pattern makes it easy to achieve. Crochet enthusiasts of all skill levels will enjoy this fun and engaging project.

The entire pattern uses single crochet stitches (sc) worked in the back loop of a stitch and double crochet stitches (dc) worked in a remaining front loop of a stitch from 2 rows before. Diagrams and an explanation about how the pattern is worked are included on page 2 of the electronic booklet.

The pattern is worked on the RS (right side) only, and you will fasten-off the strand of yarn you are working with at the end of every row. The project is designed to allow you to create a fringe on the left and right side edges of the blanket. BONUS: You will not have any ends to sew in!

By watching Carol’s helpful step-by-step video tutorial you will be able to master the dropped double crochet technique easily.

This 8-page ePattern is written in U.S. Crochet Terms and uses only simple crochet stitches. Instructions on how to read the pattern and how to recognize the loops of the stitches are all provided on page 2.

Row by row written instructions for the afghan are included on pages 3 to 5, with the optional afghan graph on pages 7 and 8.

The written instructions for the pillow and optional pillow graph are located on pages 5 and 6.

You can work the pattern from either the written instructions or the graphs.

The border on two sides of the blanket is created by overhand knots that are tied which means you have no ends to sew in! When making the pillow the ends are used to create a fun matching fringe.

  1. I love the cheyenne pillow pattern and would love to make it into a tote bag.

  2. I feel that Carol at Shady Lane has so many wonderful patterns. I think her Diamond Duchess Afghan #409 pattern would make an heirloom blanket and is quite beautiful, making it my favorite.
