Captive Heart Afghan and Pillow Set Pattern

This month, Carol Hegar from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs has given me a copy of her Captive Hearts Afghan and Pillow Set to review and a second copy to giveaway to one of my readers!

This textured crochet afghan has a quilt-like appearance with 2 heart squares that alternate to create the design. You can easily crochet this in any color, making it suitable for a wide-range of recipients.

The entire pattern uses only single crochet stitches worked in the back loop of a stitch and double crochet stitches worked in a remaining front loop of a stitch from 2 rows before.

The pattern is worked on the RS (right side) only, and you will finish-off the strand of yarn you are working with at the end of every row. The project is designed to allow you to create a fringe on the left and right side edges of the blanket. You will not have any ends to sew in!

By watching Carol’s helpful step-by-step video tutorial you will be able to master the dropped double crochet technique easily.

This 6-page ePattern is written in U.S. Crochet Terms and uses only simple crochet stitches. Instructions on how to read the pattern and how to recognize the loops of the stitches are included on page 2. Row by row written instructions are included from page 3 to page 4 and the optional Afghan Graph (for those who prefer following graphs) is included from page 5 to page 6.

• 49 inches X 71 inches (lengthwise version)
• 50 inches X 70 inches (crosswise version)
• size 5 mm (H) crochet hook
• 56 oz of main color, worsted weight yarn
• 1.75 oz of contrast color, worsted weight yarn
• gauge: 7 sc and 7 rows = 2 inch

• 31 inches X 43 inches
• size 4 mm (G) crochet hook
• 16 oz of main color, baby yarn
• 0.5 oz of contrast color, baby yarn
• gauge: 4 sc and 5 rows = 1 inch

Captive Heart Pillow

• 14 inches square
• size 4 mm (G) crochet hook
• 10.5 oz of main color, worsted weight yarn
• 0.75 oz of contrast color, worsted weight yarn
• gauge: 4 sc and 4 rows = 1 inch
• graph on page 5
