Here’s how it works.

This Crochet Baby Bean Stitch Scarf is a beautifully textured project that takes less than a ball of yarn to crochet! The project is worked widthwise, back and forth in rows, following a very easy one row repeat. You’ll be amazed at how quickly this scarf works up! I think you’ll love the woven-look and finished texture this puff stitch creates.

BONUS: You can make this scarf with any yarn and hook combination you have on hand.

Be sure to check my “You can use any yarn and hook to make this project!” section at the end of the post. I explain how you can use any yarn and hook to make your project. Plus, you can make this in any size, just by changing the number of starting chains, or the number of rows you crochet.

Notes:

  • Stitch multiple of 2 + 1 for the turning chain
  • Reversible
  • Ch 2 to turn does not count as a stitch and we do not work into it.
  • When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. You can work under the back loop only if you prefer.
  • To make this scarf longer, work more stitches.
  • To make this scarf wider, chain more stitches using the stitch multiple.

You can use any yarn and hook to make this project!

  1. With the yarn and hook you’ve chosen for the project, chain until you reach the width you’d like for your scarf (shawl, or blanket); or chain until your width measures 5.5 inches.
  2. Check that you number of chains can be divided by 2 evenly and then add 1 extra chain(to match the stitch multiple).
  3. Follow the pattern as written.
  4. Continue crocheting until your project is the length you would like it to be, or until it measures approximately 76 inches long.
  5. Finish off and weave in your ends.
