Amigurumi on the Go
The instructions included in Amigurumi on the Go are clearly written and easy-to-follow. The book also includes a section for general guidelines (i.e. basic stitches used in the projects) and a separate section for the abbreviations and the glossary.
Page 75 includes a step-by-step explanation for adding the felt pieces to the faces of the crochet projects. This section is very helpful, especially if you haven’t worked with felt before.
I did have to investigate what a running stitch was – so here is a link in case you need it too! Running Stitch
It was difficult to decide what project to try from the book – I have quite a few I want to make – but I settled on something Drew picked out.

Cute right? Each of the patterns included is simply adorable. Children will love anything you choose to make from Amigurumi on the Go!
I love learning new techniques and for this project I learned how to add a zipper to my crochet project- and it is actually VERY easy to do! Who would have known? I surely didn’t! I used my yarn and my yarn needle and it was simple!
Gauge for Amigurumi Projects
The only thing I struggled with for this book was that the projects did not include gauge information.
Normally for amigurumi this is not a problem – but for projects where you are using a zipper – in a specified size – it is imperative that you try to make your project a similar size to the one in the instructions.
For example for the Pencil Cases they should be a Finished Size of approximately 4.5″ high and 7.25″ wide.
After three attempts I finally settled on a 4.00 mm crochet hook to make my pencil case (the book recommended 6.50 mm and worsted weight yarn) and it still ended up too large – in the end my pencil case was 5.25″ by 8″ in size. Next time I will try an even smaller hook (3.25 mm) and really try to keep those stitches tight!
Now since I have tried adding a zipper to a project, I am no longer nervous about it! It really is easy and the instructions in this book explain very clearly how to do it!
Here is Drew’s Monkey Pencil Case – although his pencil case does not hold pencils! It holds his ‘treasures’!
Drew’s Monkey Pencil Case
and yes…he does have red marker on the end of his little nose! He discovered some of his markers were actually ‘smelly’ markers and he was happy to try each one by sniffing it while it was touching his nose! I suspect this one was strawberry! Thank goodness they are washable!
Amigurumi on the Go by Ana Paula Rimoli is a delightful book for crocheters who enjoy making small, portable projects. With clear instructions and fun designs, it’s easy to see why this book has become a favorite in the crochet community.
