Amelia Crocheted Hat Pattern

Here’s how it works.
The Amelia Crocheted Hat by @oombawkadesigncrochet matches the Amelia Triangle Scarf!
To make it even better though, I’ve included multiple sizes AND this pretty hat is worked flat so it is very beginner friendly!
That’s right, this hat is crocheted back and forth in rows and then seamed and closed into a finished hat.
You can wear it as a beanie, or as a slouch hat. Add an optional pom pom or leave the hat as it is and simply close it up nice and snug at the top with my Simple Closing Method for Hats!

Notes:
Stitch multiple: chain a multiple of 2 stitches
I work in the back bump of the chain stitches. I prefer this as it gives me a more elastic foundation chain (it isn’t as tight). You may work in the back loop instead if you prefer.
This stitch does not stretch very much. For the preemie, newborn and 0-3 months sizes I have allowed the hat size to be the same as the head size. This will allow the hats to be put on baby’s softer heads more easily and more safely. The larger sizes are each allowing 1-inch of negative ease for stretching.
These hats are designed to have a foldable brim or to be worn as a slouch hat. The hat heights used are the same as the ones I use for my slouch hats. You can see the full list of hat heights by size here.

Finishing Instructions:
Fold the rectangle you have crocheted in half.
With the 2-side edges now touching and using the yarn end you left at the very beginning of the project, whip-stitch the 2 side edges together under one loop of the stitch from each edge of the fabric only (don’t whipstitch around all of the stitch, choose a single loop on each piece of fabric and work through those only – it will be much less visible).
If you still have enough yarn left-over from your yarn end you can use it to close the top of the hat; however, if you only have a little bit left, weave in the end securely and use the other yarn-end you left at the end of the project to close the top of the hat.
To close the top of the hat, use my simple closing method for hats and mittens and weave your yarn end, in and out, of the remaining stitches (and chain-1 stitches – NOT the space itself but under 1 loop of the chain stitch) and at the end (after you have woven in and out of all the stitches once) pull slowly and firmly to cinch the top of the hat closed. There may be a small hole left at the top so you will now use that yarn end to tack the top closed. I did this 2 times in one direction and 2 times in the other direction (creating an X in the top).
Finish off and weave in that end very securely.
If you wish to add a pom-pom, either use a pom-pom maker like this, or do it the old-fashioned way, like this.
