Teen Amber Crochet Hat - Oombawka Crochet

My Amber Hat Pattern was designed using the Blossom Stitch. This pattern is available in sizes Baby to Adult and is crocheted in the round, from the top-down.

Amber Newborn Hat with Little Flower

The Blossom Stitch is worked on a 2 row repeat and I have modified it slightly to work in the round.

Before you make your hat, decide which hat crown you prefer. The Newborn Hat Crown, or the Teen (Adult Small) Hat Crown. The difference is a simple TURN at the end of the round for the Teen Hat but it creates a slightly different look. So decide your preference and if you like the Teen look then TURN after each round from R1 to the end of the hat size you are making. If you prefer the Newborn look just follow the pattern as written.

One other thing you need to decide, is if you like the lacy edge on the Teen Hat or the straight edge on the Newborn Hat. My daughter wanted a more lacy edge so I omitted the final single crochet round for the hat. If you prefer the more lacy edge, just omit the final single crochet round.

Have fun crocheting!

As always if you find an error, typo or have a question, please feel free to leave me a comment on the post.

Notes

  • Stitch multiple: 4 (Understanding Stitch Multiples)
  • The initial ch-3 does not count as a stitch
  • The sl st does not count as a stitch
  • Make your sl st tightly.
  • The Teen Amber Hat shown in the photos (in bright blue – Hawaii) works the entire project by turning at the end of every round and omits the final single crochet round (my daughter wanted the more lacy edge).
  • The Newborn Amber Hat shown in the photos only begins turning when we reach the pattern stitch round.
  • Depending on how you’d like the top of your hat to look, you can use either method. The pattern is written to begin turning when we begin the pattern stitch rounds.
  • When we begin working the pattern stitch you will be TURNING your work at the end of each round.
  • You may customize the hat height by working the repeat as many, or as few, times as you wish. Every 5 rounds you add with the stitch pattern, will add approximately 2-inches of height to the hat.
  • I use an invisible join to finish off my final round of stitches, you may substitute a sl st to join if you prefer.
