This post includes the adjustable coffee cup cozy pattern. This is a free pattern you can make with medium weight yarn. Great as a last minute gift idea and a stashbuster crochet project.
Adjustable Coffee Cup Cozy Pattern
Yarn: 3 colours of Loops & Threads Impeccable (worsted weight yarn). I used white, amethyst and rich orchid
Hook: 4.0 mm (G)
Buttons: I used two – 1 inch buttons. You can use more or less to make this fit other sizes too!
Finished Dimensions: approximately 15″ long by 2.5″ wide.
You can make this fit multiple sizes of cups – you may just need some extra buttons 😉
I tried it on the following:
- 14″ circumference coffee mug
- 11″ circumference coffee mug
- 12″ circumference glass Ashland Jar Candle
and it also fits around disposable coffee cups 🙂 you do need to add a 3rd button to ensure it fits securely and when using it as a sleeve be sure you have a good grip so you do not get burned by the hot liquid in the cup!
This pattern is not difficult – you may need to review some tutorials to get started if you are unfamiliar with standing stitches.
Helpful Tutorials:
Invisible Join
Standing double crochet
Standing single crochet
The standing hdc is the same as the standing dc except you only yarn over 1 time and pull through all three loops on the hook to complete the hd stitch. They both start the same for the ‘standing’ bit.
tr – triple crochet stitch: yarn over the hook twice, insert the hook into the specified stitch, yarn over the hook and pull up 1 loop (you have 4 loops on the hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops (you have 3 loops on the hook), yarn over hook, pull through 2 loops (2 loops on the hook), yarn over hook, pull through remaining 2 loops.
Abbreviations: R: row/round, ch – chain, st – stitch, sts – stitches, tr – triple crochet stitch, , sc – single crochet, dc – double crochet, hdc – half double crochet, sk – skip
R1: ch 43, skip the first 4 sts (counts as 1 tr), work 1 tr in each st across, finish off and invisible join (40)
You will now be working around the initial tr crochet row starting at the beginning of the 1st row and working around the post of the first tr (i.e. the 4 ch sts)stitch.
using colour 2
R2: join yarn with a sc, ch 2 and work 3 dc around the end post, work 2 dc in the next st, work 1 dc in each of the next 36 sts, work 2 dc in the next st, work 4 dc around the last st, work 2 dc in the next st, work 1 dc in each of the next 36 sts, work 2 dc in the last st, finish off and invisible join.
using colour 3
R3: join yarn with a hdc in any stitch, ch 1, work 1 more hdc in the same stitch, skip one stitch, (work 1 hdc, ch 1, 1 hdc in the next st, sk 1 stitch) repeat 43 times, finish off and invisible join.
